On good vs bad in entertainment?

Really? Anything? Pretty sure movies like the Saw series aren’t pornography, but all about killing people in the most painful way possible.

And I would argue that’s wrong, because it all becomes about the most painful and tortuous way to kill a human being.

I repeat. We can watch anything except pornography. Of course if anyone is weak in their faith there are probably movies (like Da Vinci code etc) that are not recommended to watch.

Besides, there no longer is a “legion of decency” but rather a rating service for Catholics so we can decide what is best for us and our families to view. Just because we are free to view anything we want doesn’t follow that it is all right to do so. If it were black and white issue the Church would say so, but the Church tells us we are to form our consciences according to the moral teaching of the Church and act accordingly. That seems plain enough to me, and quite sensible.

well that may be true, but let me add that images as such, are intrinsically good just as anything which subsists by itself are intrinsically good, for if they were not then they would not exist.

But there are ways for an intrinsic good to be extrinsically bad which is why we can’t just view anything unless there be some external change of circumstance.

I’m sure that images, just by way of making an addition to your post, are intrinsically good or else they would not exist.

But do intrinsically good things become extrinsically bad? I think so and this is where you don’t want to do them.

Intrinsically good things cannot become intrinsically bad–they can only be misused for bad purposes.
