I’m interested in joining a monastery outside my country and I wonder how does it works. Is there a special process for a religious postulant visa? How bureaucratic is? Also, does anyone know if Clear Creek Abbey accepts postulants outside the US?

This would depend upon your country of origin (where you’re coming from) and the destination country (where you’re trying to go). There is absolutely no way to generalize this.

The community you seek to join should be able to assist you with this, so I recommend contacting it directly. God bless! 🙂

I’m from Brazil and I’m talking particularly about the US

Please contact the community you wish to join. They are in the best position to advise you.

Or you could try asking the USCIS.

Praying for you and all who are discerning a vocation 🙏

You mentioned Clear Creek Abbey. I believe they have a contact form on their Web site. Given the elements you’ve provided, I think the subject you would choose is General Inquiries.

If the Abbey accepts international postulates, they have a procedure in place. Every Diocese has a process in place for bringing in international priests/seminarians. As some would say “this is not their first rodeo”.

Prayers for your vocation.

I don’t think Clear Creek Abbey would have any issue with you being from another country. Their chief concern will be your vocation. They will, of course, have to obey US laws and so it will be US law that determines whether you can enter the USA and become a permanent member of the Clear Creek Abbey community.
