Hi! I live in Toronto, and I’m Roman Catholic. I want to find out is there anyone who did online marriage preparation course? And did your priest accept it? Or is it possible to do the course in one day?
Thanks for your help

It doesn’t really matter if anyone else’s priest accepted an online marriage preparation course. It only matters what your pastor will accept.

Talk to your pastor. If you and your fiancé have a need to work something out as it pertains to marriage preparation, I’m sure the pastor will work with you.

In my case, my husband and I lived in different states. In his state we could do a one day marriage prep whereas in my location it was in meetings over a period of time. So we did the prep course in his state, and my parish (where we got married) accepted the certificate from that course.

Bottom line: You need to ask your own pastor for guidance.

Thank you 🙂 of course we will meet our pastor soon, but I’d like to know all our options. For us is very difficult to attend weekend preparation course or during several weeks.

An online course you can do in a day? I don’t know if the pastor will accept it but it sounds like horrible idea!

No, it’s not possible to do on line course in one day, it takes 3-6 weeks. What I meant, in class course in one day.

Our son and his wife did this. A series of online topics guided by a couple in his diocese. They met with the couple three or four times in person. They had to workout the specifics and present it to the priest.

She was finishing her advanced degree in her home country of Australia and he in the U.S…

Oh ok. Nobody here will know what is acceptable in your own parish. But I’ll tell you that a big problem with divorce and the very high number of annulments has to do with lack of education and preparation. This is the biggest decision your souls will make, with all the permanency and seriousness of a priest being ordained. And in the Catholic Church there’s no online course for that. When one gets married children might follow, and perhaps quicker than one has “planned” if several weekends are hard now… but it could be that work schedules are such it just cant happen. I know some places offer a weekend retreat in place of the classes. But in my view almost all preparation is woefully lacking. A phone call to the parish should answer your question definitively today .

Thank you for your answer! I’m very aware of all that you wrote. I have already scheduled an appointment with my priest, and I’ll find out what he wills say.

Awesome. And of course I forgot congrats! Being married and my family are the best things in the world! I love it when people find that!

IF you are in the US, you might ask if they will accept the series by the Agustine Institute “Beloved” parts 1 and 2 available on the FORMED platform.

My wife and I did a one day “retreat” and then had like 2 or 3 meetings either with the nun or the priest. It was a 3 hour drive and cost us a hotel room, but it was a lot better than 6 weeks worth of meetings.
