From the Sayings of the Holy Desert Fathers:
On one occasion they brought a man possessed of a devil to one of the old men of Thebes, and entreated him to cast the devil out, and he said to the devil: Get you out from that which God has fashioned. Then the devil answered and said: I would ask you to tell me one thing: What is the meaning of that which is written in the Gospel, Who are the goats and who are the sheep? The old man answered and said: I myself am one of the goats, but God knows who the sheep are; and when the devil heard this, he cried out with a loud voice, saying: Behold, I go forth because of your humility, and straightway he left the man and departed.

Goodbye to all. Be bold. Be Catholic.

From James 4:

“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble… Humble yourselves before the Lord and he will exalt you… you have no idea what your life will be like tomorrow. You are a puff of smoke that appears briefly and then disappears… you should say, if the Lord wills it, we shall live to do this or that’”

Thomas a Kempis:

“Never think of yourself better than the next man, however glaring his faults, however grievous his offences; you are in good dispositions now, but how long will they last? Tell yourself, We are frail, all of us, but none so frail as I.”

From St Ignatius of Loyola.

“What seems to me white, I will believe black if the hierarchical Church so defines.”
