Pikaboo, I’m back 🙂

Okay this is my question…

If god (now i said IF) created adam and eve,and then sent them to earth for there wrong doings…then why were there so many other relgions worshiping other gods?

Hello,

First off, Adam and Eve were not sent to Earth. They were here from their beginning. Eden was a real place on Earth - I think it was somewhere around Iraq/Kuwait around where the four rivers dump into the Persian Gulf.

Second, about the many religions. This was a result of the fall, as man became more and more degenerate. They became more and more sinful, even resorting to the sin of idolatry.

WB reborn. As another poster pointed out, Adam and Eve were not “sent” to earth. They came into being on this earth, and remained here for their entire lives. They started their existence in the Garden of Eden and remained there until they disobeyed God.

At that point they were banished from the Garden, and no longer enjoyed the direct presence of God. God remained removed from humanity until choosing to reveal Himself to the Israelites. There is no indication in the Bible about how long a period of time this was.

Well, depends. Genesis 4:25-26 says
“25 Adam lay with his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, * saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” 26 Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh.
At that time men began to call on [j] the name of the LORD.”

Then Genesis 5:
“3 When Adam had lived 130 years, he had a son in his own likeness, in his own image; and he named him Seth.”
and
“6 When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father ** of Enosh.”

So, presuming a) that one accepts these stories as literal indications of time as we currently understand it (which is far from a consensus) and b) that the stories are literally true rather than allegorical (also far from a consensus) then one has two possible interpretations.
  1. If “at that time” refers to the birth of Seth, then one can gather that the time period was somewhere less than 130 years (depending on the age of Adam at the time of the expulsion from the Garden, which occurred before the birth of Cain, that was long enough before the birth of Seth to have allowed Cain to become old enough to kill his brother and be banished).
  2. If “at that time” refers to the birth of Enosh, it was somewhere less than 235 years (see above related to Adam’s age at expulsion).
As the Bible records God speaking in terms of the murder of Abel by Cain, one would presume that that indicates that at least in that incident, God revealed Himself to humanity. If you want to wait until Noah, then you can play with the math in Genesis 5 to figure out the rough passage of time.***

**God didn’t send Adam and Eve, He created them. ***Certainly the first human beings had to be created by someone or something…?

God didn’t create them and place them in the garden so that they could do wrong things. *** He allowed them the choice to obey Him or to choose evil, and they made a choice to follow evil. He gave them the gift of innocence and everlasting life and they decided they wanted to know better than God.

*As Catholics, these things we are to believe about the story of Creation:

  1. *]Creation of all by God at the beginning of time.
*]Man was a special and unique creation.
*]Formation from first woman was from man.
*]Unity of the human race; common parents for all.
*]Original happiness of Adam and Eve before sin.
*]Divine command on man to prove his obedience.
*]Transgressing of man at the instigation of the devil.
*]Fall of innocence of our first parents Adam and Eve.
*]Promise of a future Redeemer (Christ).
These are from 1909 Magisterial documents.

The Bible is given to us by Divine inspiration. They could be mythical figures, BUT is based on HISTORICAL EVENTS.

I suppose it all comes down to how you veiw religion. Christianity would teach that God has given us free will, and as a result of that we can choose not to follow him. God wants us to choose to follow him but he does not want to force us.

Of course you could say that faith is a result of human nature, and that various religions are meerly the result of cultural evolution. When groups of people are seperated, religion will develop from this basic faith, and with no links between groups, the religions will all develop seperatly resulting in a large number of different beliefes in different Gods.
