It is an error to believe that man can resist any temptation without the help of His grace, so that he may not be led into it and not be overcome by it. So the first step it to recognize that error, the second to get into a state of sanctifying grace, and third to avoid the near occasion, and the fourth to never give in voluntarily. All sin is voluntary. Consider that consenting is not making you happy since you are continually miserable about it after. The lie is that in a feeling gained there will be some relief from something, even some other issue in your life for which this momentary feeling is like a compensation, such as may occur with eating.
