As a former-Muslim, I always found it strange that Islam assumed that a man could not control his desires. Perhaps this assumption is the cause of many social ills in predominantly Muslim countries.
There is a history of asceticism is Islam. However, it is viewed as deviant in Orthodox Islam.Let me reiterate that Islamic law makes it very difficult for a Muslim woman to initiate divorce. There 2 forms of divorce in the Sharia. The first is called Talaaq. This is initiated by the husband and can be as simply as annoucing divorce 3 times to his wife, in front of witnesses. The second form is Khula. According to this form, the wife must give back her Maher (dowry) and it, basically, must be agreed to by the husband. The Maher can be millions of dollars in places like Kuwait. So, the husband has authority in both types. Perhaps Muslim Woman does not know this, or she is not sharing this information. I want to be clear, though, that, similar to Western law, Islam law can be complicated. Fortunately for Muslim women, most muslim countries have gone away from Islam law as it sole legal source. For example, polygamy is prohibited or severly restricted in most of these countries.
during the time of Prophet Muhammed (p) , a woman ended her married life & husband started crying & begging for not doing so.
I am aware of this hadeeth, however, it is in oppossition to the 4 Sunni Legal schools. Perhaps, you can find out and inform me. Maybe this Isnaad is unreliable.
