I would like to share some experienced advice with everyone, in the hope that nobody will make the same mistakes as me. The advice is this-
1.Be careful how much you tell people online…Never tell them personal details like your real name, address, etc.
2.Remember that people online are strangers, who don’t know you, and often don’t care weather they hurt your feelings.
3.If you talk about God online, even if you’re only trying to be helpful or friendly, people will often want to argue.
4.Don’t expect people online to like you or understand you. If you make a website which to you is the best in the world, don’t expect them to appreciate it. And unless you’re prepared for any sort of response, don’t ask them for advice with your personal problems.
The internet, including CAF, has taught me a lot about the ways of the world. When I first came here (as a lonely and spiritually passionate 13 year old who badly wanted to learn about God) I assumed everyone here was very wise, like the saints. But this isn’t neccesarily true. There are all sorts of people online, some of whom are good and some of whom are *horrible.*For example, in school, everyone says that I’m highly intelligent. But online (I am not specifying caf, so don’t be mad), people have called me retarded, ignorant, a lot of other stuff, and, most hurtful of all,for absolutely no discernable reason, heretical. It hurts a LOT, and now I sometimes wonder weather I really am all these things. It will hurt you too, if you don’t know about the guidelines I’ve typed. So if you are wise, you will listen to the guidelines, and be careful who you talk to online, what websites you go to, and what you say to people. I wouldn’t want any of you to get hurt, so PLZ listen. Thats all.And ask St.Isidore for help, because (I think) he’s the patron saint of the internet. God bless and BE SAFE ONLINE!

…I too am very sorry that you were hurt, “Tee” and it sounds as though you have discerned your unhappy experiences and come up with very helpful advice for all and especially the inexperienced. Great Post - it should go into a Sticky for all to read!..St. Isidore pray for us …barb
