Have or do any of you have any online friends
I met my loving best friend through CAF! We PMed for a while, switched to email, Skype, etc… We are far more than online friends now. 🙂 I thank God for her daily.

Do you mean generally or specifically on CAF?

CAF provides the opportunity to get to know souls. I think online Catholic communities are blessed. God is present in amongst the people as they share their faith-life. One can gauge a person’s character from being on here and even while hidden behind usernames - for reasons I believe valid - it is possible that one can still sense or feel what another person is like. What I mean is, is that on CAF, and communities such as these, one does register that there is a human being behind the username. It is powerful in that way. And I think peculiar to Catholic communities in particular because we share and acknowledge the same identity and even for those that don’t, yet, those people are on here because they are searching and questioning, so everyone has a certain bond. The soul of the person can really shine through their words. Obviously, one won’t know everything there is to know, but faith is a powerful route to forming friendships/connections/bonds of trust.
🙂

Yes, I have a few good friends I have met online. Some I converse with daily or several times a day, lol! Others every once few days or weeks. Sometimes you meet people online that you just click with, and it turns into real friendships.

Not really. There are people on forums with whom I occasionally exchange PMs. That’s it.

This site is the most action I see, where humans interact online.

There are folks on here whom, if I knew in real life, it seems would be a joy to be around.

One person particularly, solely based on a great back and forth a while ago. But we don’t interact other than in the forums, if the subject tickles us.

What if initially I lied to someone online about my age by 6 years. I never intended being online friends with this person, but we ended up chatting a lot more. I am planning to add this to my confession, but would it be a sin for me to continue talking to this person if they believe I’m a different age than they thought? We strictly just chat friendly but I don’t know how if it would be wrong to continue.

Is it a sin to continue innocent chatting probably not. Especially if it’s a case where you said you were 30 and were really 36.

But I suspect from your wording, concern and question that you’re really under 21 and this person thinks you’re six years older than you are. And to me that is a big issue. The fact that you’re asking seems to me to indicate that you KNOW it’s a problem, and so yes, you should be honest and personally if you are under 18 and they are over 21 then I’d end the chats entirely.

I’ve been through this with three of my children now - though it’s hard to understand when you’re that age, there is a world of difference between a younger teen, an older teen and an adult. If you’d said you’d fudged your age by a couple years…maybe. But 6? (Again, I am making assumptions here!) That’s too much of an age gap for a young person.

I wish you all the best. I have made many friends online and in fact, met my husband in the old version of “online” (aka phone dating service). But have the confidence to be wonderfully yourself at whatever age you are at the time and trust God to help you meet the people who will be a blessing in your life.

Yes, if you are under age then you need to cease your chats with the person immediately. You can put them in a whole world of hurt if someone misconstrues anything within the conversation.
