Only one reading and the Gospel? Daily Mass

He may wear different colors if he celebrates the Memorial or even on Optional Memorial. Our pastor wore red today for Saints Pontain and Hippolytus, though that is only an Optional Memorial. We use the readings from Thursday of the 19th week, but I assume he used the other propers [prayers] from the optional mass. [Between my bad hearing, his accent, and our sound system I have little idea of what is said.]

Our priest wore white and the readings were for the optional memorial–I believe it was the common of pastors and not martyrs that he used though.

Eadh year our diocese [and most dioceses I expect] publishes a small book called the ORDO which details options for masses and the LOTH for each day. It includes all exceptions specific to that diocese - Solemnities and Feasts specific to the diocese and to individual parishes, e.g. the anniversary of the consecration of the parish church. There is usually a copy someplace in the Sacristy. **

It doesn’t always have to be–it’s there as a helpful resource when needed. I rarely consult mine, because I found it easier to simply look at the wall calendar, yet at the same time, I’m very careful about following the liturgical calendar properly.

On most weekdays of Ordinal time, the Church grants considerable flexibility on which Mass texts to choose. On these days, the ordos usually contain the line “any Mass.”

Either one could have been used, martyr or pastor.

Yes, I found that out. Since the readings he used were not the same as those in the Magnificat (which had just the regular readings for the day), I looked it up later in the full missal. Our priest choose the readings that talked about suffering for Christ (gospel of John)–whichever one that is.
