Have seen stuff for sale in almost every urban parish I’ve been to… well over 40 parishes of Catholics, in two Churches Sui Iuris, plus a half dozen Russian Orthodox parishes… Much of it by donation, rest of it with prices and “see attendant”. Sometimes in glass sales cases.
A few didn’t; they had gift shops instead, or you see the cantor, and he’ll get you what you need. Some had the cases in the parish hall instead of the narthex.
I’ve never seen anything for sale in the narthex of any church i’ve been in; usually i see lots of handouts, flyers for charity events, news bulletins, and sign up sheets for various parish activites.
Our narthex has two Parish builliten boards and some handouts and flyers on the ministries offered, or the charity work being done in the area (or in missions). There are also large statues of Our Lady of Fatima with the three seers, and Ss. Cosmas and Damian.
Also signs asking us to silence our cell phones and to please observe proper decorum and dress while in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament.
