Opinions on children and fictional magic?

I am certain that this question has been asked numerous times, but I’d just like to hear some fresh opinions from you guys.

I recently heard about this YouTube video from a YouTuber. He talked about this Jehovah’s Witness cartoon short, where a mother teaches her child that his wizard-warrior toy should not be played with, since, well… It’s a wizard! gasp

I’d just like to throw in my own two cents… as a kid, I was never interested in magic. However, I was OBSESSED with the Teen Titans cartoon. One of the main heroes was Raven, whose powers relied on sorcery and the sorts. Looking back, I really don’t care, because it wasn’t like she was summoning Satan of anything.

The scruples are probably happening again, but I’d still like to hear your voices. I’ll be glad to debate.

By and large the Catholic Church has no position on such things. Some Church officials have had negative opinions and some have had positive opinions of the most famous recent magical books, Harry Potter. It comes down to prudent judgment.

Ultimately parents simply need to ask themselves if any particular book or movie is advancing values that are contrary to their faith. If so, avoid it. If not, feel free. Reasonable and well meaning people will disagree, but we should asking the same question.
