Why do priests some priests wear rings and some don’t? What does this symbolize? Do they get them at their ordination?

Two priest friends of mine wear something like a wedding band around their ring finger. I suppose it is to syjmbolize that they are married to the Church, so to speak.

The only one who receives a ring is the newly ordained bishop. The ring is a symbol of his union with the Church. Newly created cardinals receive a ring from the Holy Father. This signifies their union with the Successor of St. Peter. The Holy Father, in turn, receives a ring at his installation Mass. This is called the Ring of the Fisherman. This ring is one of the symbols of his Petrine Ministry (along with the distinctive pallium and the crossier).

As in marriage, their rings symbolize commitment to their vows and way of life, their priesthood

I never got a ring, or a crucifix at ordination.
and only ones I have seen were on the bishops.
all we got was the sheepskin after the ordination.

Perhaps some of them are members of religious orders for which the rings are a symbol?

I found this Forum through seeking an answer to this question. Recently I have been watching a Portuguese satellite channel called Canção Nova. As far as I can tell the Priest members of the Comunidade Canção Nova wear rings. Perhaps it is because they live as a Community.
