I’ve shared below a chart that explains the organization of the Catholic Church into Eastern and Western as well as the accompanying rites. I thought this was a great resource for those interested in learning about different rites and the sui juris Churches or particular churches,

Thanks, I love stuff like this, it keeps my thoughts organized.
Small nit pick: the Carthusian Rite seems to be missing from the Latin Church block.

Thanks! I believe it was Vico who had created a similar chart. He had updated it with the Eritrean Catholic Church, which was created from the Ethiopian Catholic Church in 2015, but I can’t find it right now. Here’s the old one:

Also, it would be more proper to call these the 24 Churches sui iuris of the Catholic Church. There are only six rites, as seen above. A little explanation from the 1990 Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches:

“Canon 27 - A group of Christian faithful united by a hierarchy according to the norm of law which the supreme authority of the Church expressly or tacitly recognizes as sui iuris is called in this Code a Church sui iuris.

“Canon 28 - A rite is the liturgical, theological, spiritual and disciplinary patrimony, culture and circumstances of history of a distinct people, by which its own manner of living the faith is manifested in each Church sui iuris.”

To simplify, the Catholic Church is divided into six distinct rites, and within those six rites, there are 24 distinct and autonomous Churches.

Historically have all of the Eastern Catholic Churches maintained in communion with the Holy See, or did the majority of them at one point go into schism with the Eastern Orthodox Church in 1054 and then eventually come back? I know a lot of the Eastern Catholic Churches have most of the same traditions as the Orthodox. I pray one day it will just be the Great Church again.
