Hello everyone. A few weeks ago I asked my parish priest if he would bless my St. Benedict medal. He said he would and when I brought to him after mass today he said he thought he had the approved Latin blessing for it but couldn’t find it so he’d have to look online. I also asked the visiting priest who said mass and he said he knew it (or knew of it) but that it was quite long and he wasn’t prepared to do it right then. The parish preist did a minor blessing on it for now. Only problem is I’ve looked myself and haven’t found much online other than info on the most recent blessing which isn’t much help and this video which could have the text I’m looking for. Anyone know a more authentic source for the blessing than a video with a picture of Anthony Hopkins as an excorcist? I’ve seen other threads on this but they didn’t seem to give much of an answer. I was thinking of asking the Benedictines near me if they know it but they might wonder why I just don’t have them bless it as I doubt they’d do the original. Thanks in advance.

Why not save the text of the Latin Blessing for the next time you need to have something blessed. As for your current medal, it is already blessed, and you do not need to have another go at it.
Any thinking that a blessing in Latin is more effective than one in English or any other language falls into the area of superstition rather than faith.

I’m not sure if you saw this website, but if you scroll down to Section XI (APPROBATION OF S. BENEDICT’S MEDAL BY THE HOLY SEE), they’ve got the full Latin blessing with English translation printed: liturgialatina.org/benedictine/stbenmedal.htm

I’d copy the entire blessing prayers here, but it would be much too long. Hope this helps!

It’s been blessed with the sign of the cross but not with the prayer specific to this medal, in neither English nor Latin. The preist said “bring it to me after mass;” he never mentioned coming prepared with texts. I suspect after mass next Sunday he’ll have found it anyways. This is a gold medal I’ll be wearing at all times so I’m not even thinking about next time.

Terrific, thanks for actually answering my question!

Merry Christmas all!

And for those looking in future, here is what I think is the text I was looking for:
Adjutorium nostrum in nomine Domini.
R. Amen.
Kyrie eleison, Christe eleison, Kyrie eleison.
Pater noster, etc.
V. Et ne nos inducas in tentationem.
R. Sed libera nos a malo.
V. Salvos fac servos tuos.
R. Deus meus, sperantes in te.
V. Esto nobis, Domine, turris fortitudinis.
R. A facie inimici.
V. Deus virtutem populo suo dabit.
R. Dominus benedicet populum suum in pace.
V. Mitte eis, Domine, auxilium de sancto.
R. Et de Sion tuere eos.
V. Domine, exaudi orationem meam.
R. Et clamor meus ad te veniat.
V. Dominus vobiscum.
R. Et cum Spiritu tuo.
Oremus.
Oremus.
R. Amen.
