I have been meditating on the fact the sometimes
a thot comes into my head that my “love” for others
is just forced and fake, not genuine. This is a LIE
from the father of lies, it casts the shadow of a doubt
on whether God has an ulterior motive for Loving us
and sending Jesus to be sacrificed on the cross.
Our love for others is a REFLECTION of God’s Love
for us(1 John 4:19) We can Love ONLY B/C God
has loved us and has “demonstrated His Love for us
in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us”
Rom. 5:8
This was the Original sin, that Adam and Eve bought
the LIE that God didn’t Love them wholly, but was
holding out something from them(the Idea that they
can become gods). So, our doubts about God’s Love
are a reflection of that “original sin” the LIE that satan
speaks. Indeed, satan himself is so self-centered that
HE himself believes THAT!! So “Original sin” is not so
original after all!!

Adam and eve buying the lie was their pride. St. Thomas Aquinas thought that pride is the source of all sins.

The Church could have termed original sin to be that sin of the angels, but instead choose to mean the personal sin of Adam and Even, and in another sense analogical sin of humans at birth. The temptation to sin (but not the cause of it which is in the will) was in the form of a question, yet the sin of man was pride and was malice. Without free will there could be no charity or malice.

Yes, in pride that we know better, we fall into the deception and lie that
God doesn’t really love us with a selfless Love, “what’s HE getting out
of it?” we question.
And b/c we don’t love God, we cannot love our neighbor, and that is
breaking the two Great Commandments!!

The issue of “original sin” was and is still hotly debated as to what it supposedly is. It is not found in Judaism, for example, so how did it develop in the early church and why?

Fr Benedict Groeschel did a talk on the very subject of original sin.

He went through the various arguments pro and con supporting the belief.

In the end, he said something to the effect, that regardless of what you believe about
original sin, something went terribly wrong in the state we live intoday, is the result of it.
I’m paraphrasing here.

In Judaism, the scripture that deals with sins being passed down for generations is typically interpreted as that, when we sin, we taint ourselves, our family, and our entire society, and this can have lasting effects. During Yom Kippur services, for example, these communal sins are asked of God to be forgiven.

I’m not saying or implying that Catholics need to view this the same way as observant Jews tend to, but I thought I would contrast the difference in interpretations.

It’s also a lack of appreciation for love. Pride exalts itself, and opposes love in the process. Adam had to get his priorities straight, and presumably has by now. In any case he committed the OS for man.

Christians know it from the letters of St. Paul to the Romans 5:12-21 and 1 Corinthians 15:22, and 4 Ezra (iii, 21, 22; iv, 30, vii, 48).

Yes, that’s the way I feel is the most likely source as well. Now, the question is whether Paul really believed as such literally, or did he put it forth as a theological construct that is more symbolic? A literal approach does create some problems, which is one reason at least why o.s. was and is still controversial.

Thanx for clarifying, I was just using hyperbole when I compared
Original sin w/ Satan’s LIE.
