No. God told them: on the day you eat of the fruit of this tree, you will die. They died to life in God’s presence from the moment of their sin, and died corporeally when the duty to be fruitful and multiply was done. The rose to new life in Jesus Christ on resurrection day when He descended to sheol, the abode of the dead, and brought them to heaven. On the last day their bodies will be resurrected, as ours will, destined for eternal life, because God’s plan for us from the beginning was eternal life, body and soul as He created us. Those who reject that eternal union with God will forever endure a living death deprived of God’s presence.
