" . . . since the Scripture says: ‘No one is free from sin, not even an infant of a day old’ . . . "

This is a quote from Ambrose that I found on the New Advent site (newadvent.org/fathers/34061.htm) under Church Fathers. He is speaking about repentance. Does anyone know where this is in scripture? I searched the online Bible at the Bishop’s site, and did not find it.

Thanks

Good Day Greg

The foot notes in this work at ccel.org, Explain that this is a translation “loosely” from the LXX of Job 14:4.

Job 14:1 "Man who is born of a woman is few of days and full of trouble.

Job 14:2 He comes out like a flower and withers; he flees like a shadow and continues not.

Job 14:3 And do you open your eyes on such a one and bring me into judgment with you?

Job 14:4 Who can bring a clean thing out of an unclean? There is not one.

Job 14:5 Since his days are determined, and the number of his months is with you, and you have appointed his limits that he cannot pass,

Augustine may have commented on this passage in some of his referances to Ambrose and may help you in understanding the doctrine of sin as taught by Ambrose and Augustine and it’s effect on mankind.

Peace to u,

Bill
