I have been reading about certain Jesuits who seem to be renegades. Is this a common issue? For example, the closing of the Great Books classes at the University of San Francisco and sending the orthodox Fr. Fessio packing.

Are Jesuits predominantly a problem in this regard or rare?
 
In the sense that Fessio is a renegade? Or that the President of USF is a renegade?

I agree, there are some great Jesuits. Fr. Mitch Pacwa, S.J. is another well-known one. I’ve also come across some other pretty orthodox Jesuits in the Chicago area. And I’ve come across one or two who are kind of flaky. Maybe it’s just a function of who I’ve met, but it seems like the ones who are way out in left field are older, and the middle-aged or younger ones are better.
 
This is kind of a common issue and I think it depends where you are, the Jesuit school in Seattle is Uber-liberal but on the other side of the state, in Spokane it is better. Every order has its ups and downs, and remember we really only hear about the squeeky wheel, the goodones are probally praying their hearts out for their order.
 
Renegade in reference to sacking Fr. Fessio. My understading is Frs. Fessio, Pacwa, Hardon all have wonderful reputations. I was only asking how common it is. Apparently on college campi it is more prevalent
