I am doing a talk on Catholics & the Bible. It is part of a roundtable discussion and there will be an Anglican and a Pentecostalist pastor who will be talking on the Bible and their faiths.

I have been doing my research, believe me! 🙂

I was reading Kay Murdy’s What Every Catholic Needs to Know about the Bible; and also Peter Stravinskas The Catholic Church and the Bible. Regarding the Canon of the Bible - 24 books in the Hebrew Bible, 39 in the Protestant, 46 in our own. My question is:
More in the Orthodox Bible  ; but how many books? and what are the titles of the ‘extra’ Orthodox Bible books, please?

By the way, I recommend both those books for catechists and others who want to know about Catholics and the Bible.

It is my understanding that the Greek Orthodox Church canon follows the Catholic canon plus:1 Esdras (Esdras A)Prayer of Manasseh
Psalm 151
3 Maccabees

It is my understanding that the Russian Orthodox Church canon follows the Greek Orthodox canon plus:2 Esdras

One source says:

In addition to the books found in the Catholic Bible, “the Bible of Greek and Slavonic [Russian] Orthodox Christians includes 1 Esdras, the Prayer of Manasseh, Psalm 151, and 3 Maccabees. The Slavonic [Russian Orthodox] Bible also contains 2 Esdras, and an appendix to the Greek Bible includes 4 Maccabees.”
