I went to my first Orthodox service this past Sunday. I just wanted to let my brothers and sisters who are Orthodox Christians out there know what a wounderfull joy it was to be there. Both the Divine Liturgy and the church building were beutifull. There were Icons everywhere and I could tell the stories by the Icons without reading a word of Scripture. One painting is woth a thousand words. Your churches are living proof of that. As for the service, thay sang for most of it and I both saw and heard something wonderfull that day. I will go visit more often in the future.

Just a note, Father George told us he went to ORU. Many of the members of his church have come from ORU as well. It is a church (parish?) based on many who have come home. We hear so much of all the uneducated Catholics leaving His body that I though I would point out that I have found a church with mostly protestants who have come home, not to Rome, but we are all brothers in Chist in the Roman and Orthodox rites. (Not siblings, just brothers like what Jesus talks about when he mentions His brothers and sisters in Scripture)

If you have never visited an orthodox church or been in one of their services, I can highly recommend it. My 9 year old daughter wants to keep going there! Alas, I am a ‘Roman’ Catholic so for now, she will continue with our services.😦 If she grew up and did go back though I would really not mind at all. We all had a good time, learned much, and prayed well in their service. It was a great way to worship God.👍

Malachi,

It’s great that you had an opportunity to experience the Divine Liturgy. I don’t know where you are in OK, but if you want to indulge your daughter’s interest, you could check out either of the two Byzantine Ruthenian Catholic parishes in OK - one in Tulsa, one in OKC. Locations, phone numbers, etc are here.

There are a number of Byzantine Catholics who post here - Ruthenian and Melkite mostly, as well as a few Latin Catholics who are very familiar with and devoted to the East, and several very knowledgeable members of our Sister Churches of the Orthodox Communion. Any of us will happily answer any questions you might have.

Many years,

Neil
