A good friend of mine, an Anglican converting to Eastern Orthodoxy, gave me an Orthodox Study Bible. Is this a good Bible?
 
I’ve heard great things about it. The NT is from the NKJV, from what I understand the OT is an original translation. Can anyone vouch for that? If that’s the case, I’d like a copy myself.

Quick question, how is it formatted? Paragraphs or each verse on a separate line?

I think the commentary is not deep and not so Orthodox either, which would instead include Patristic commentary.
 
I have one and like it. There are lots of icons throughout it, and I actually find the commentary quite good (but for the few obviously un-Catholic interpretations of some of the petrine and filioque-issue-related verses).
 
I have one too, and I’m glad I bought it. I would not use it as my primary or only Bible, but it is great for cross-referencing and for gaining another perspective or understanding of a particular passage. The chapters and verse seem to correspond with my other Bibles. And yes, there are beautiful icons throughout.

Yes, it is sorely lacking. OT text is copyrighted by St. Athanasius’s Academy of Orthodox Theology, called the St. Athanasius Academy Septuagint ™ a trademarked title. NT is Thomas Nelson’s NKJV.
 
It’s not bad. I wouldn’t say it’s amazing though (the commentary, that is), but it’s a nice inclusion of patristic commentary along with the bible, and some good essays. The New Testament portion is much better than the Old Testament, the OT doesn’t have much commentary in it. I know there’s a version with just the NT and the psalms, so maybe think about just getting that.

Unfortunately the commentary is not cited all too well. I was lucky to get it on sale and have cut out of the icons to put in my prayer corner at home. :o

Agreed. I bought a copy for my daughter but found the commentary to be quite disappointing. I think it was mainly directed at Protestants who had an interest in Orthodoxy so I would not recommend it for anyone who is already steeped in a patristic mindset.
Also, I was very disappointed to discover a glaring omission in Isaiah 22 which does not fill me with confidence in the rest of the work. I’m sure you Catholics will spot it immediately.
