Beautiful but often, in many areas of the country, overly ethnic to their own detrminent and simply not practical - having not adapted to the concerns of the American world around them like the Catholic (and most protestant churches) have.
The main advantage in immigrants and their parish knowing USA culture is that children of the 2nd or 3rd generation can be taught how to fight off the bad elements learned from it more easily. However I feel also that there’s a certain destruction that occurs when adopting too much of the current “American” USA culture in a Church. Many peoples complaint about the Western Latin Cath Church is that it has become too similar to it’s protestant cousins, too “North Americanized”. Think of all the “charismatic” masses we have now. How one can prefer the bob dylanesque singing in many Latin Churches to the ancient apostolic chanting of the Eastern Churches I do not know. For me my whole point in attending Eastern Churches is to escape from this “adaptation to the concerns of the American world” I want no part of them, except to learn to avoid them.
It’s piety is geared for Eastern European and middleeastern monks more than laity.
For me this is exactly what is missing from Western Latin Catholic Churches. When the average laity stops understanding and living with monasticism influences this is when the Churches is in trouble. Throughout medieval europe monasteries were frequently visited and made a part of the average laities life. They traded food and good with them…provided charity and social services. They are what we need back again as a normal force in our society.

When the average moslem is doing more praying on his knees at the noon “salat” than the average christian is to the liturgical hours (whom the Moslems copied in the 7th century) than the world is in GRAVE danger.

Because only the Catholic Church has the fullness of truth and salvation.
Perhaps someday in the future such an arrogant position of “jurisdictional & moral superiority over all other Apostolic Churches at all times” will no longer be admitted by Western Latin Church laity or Bishops.

If it has this fullness it must be because of the Eastern Catholic Churches in communion with the Western Latin Church. Not vice versa. From the looks of the honourable holy theological traditions abandoned by the west…I say this is impossible for the Western Latin Church alone to have the absolute fullness of truth.

Otherwise what point do the Eastern Churches have if only to be 2nd rate to the West? I feel as there is an insinuation that the Melkite Church has everything to learn and nothing to teach Rome. Why did Roman Popes of the first half of the 8th century come from Syria? Why did Jesus come from Israel, he should have stayed in Rome the whole time…

God in his eternal mercy loves us nonetheless.

The previous poster did not say the “Western Latin Church” has the fullness of Truth. He said the Catholic Church has the fullness of truth. The Catholic Church is comprised of numerous Rites.

Uh, Chris, you’ve jumped the tracks here. You are out there in conspiracy theory land.
