You have allowed yourself to be seduced by the face of Islam that Muslims like to place before gullible Westeners.
If the history of the spread of Islam is examined, it will be difficult to find an example of it not being spread by the sword.
A study the history of Islam shows it has been a history of conflict from its very beginning. The two main denominations of Islam are Sunni and Shiah. Over the years Sunni-Shiah relations have been marked by both cooperation and conflict, but since the 16th century conflict has been unending.
This strain of violence has been used to spread Islam. People in the West talk about radical Islam as if it is another religion separate from the rest of Islam. It is not. It is an integral part of Islam. It is just that these so called radical Muslims are behaving in the way Muslims have always behaved down the centuries. These radical extremist do not have the patience of their brother Muslims.
The Quran’s commandments to Muslims to wage war in the name of Allah against non-Muslims are unmistakable. They are, furthermore, absolutely authoritative as they were revealed late in the Prophet’s career and so cancel and replace earlier instructions to act peaceably. Without knowledge of the principle of abrogation, Westerners will continue to misread the Quran and misdiagnose Islam as a “religion of peace.”
