Other churches uniting with the Catholic Church

I was in the SSPX post, and I would like to know your opinion about this question.

Here in CAF we read about how the Catholic Church is having discussions with the Orthodox Church about uniting. We also have posts about how the Church is having dialogues with the SSPX, for the SSPX to come into the church.

Does anybody see other churches besides those 2, that have roots throughout the world that in the near future would join the Catholic Church?

I think you misunderstand something here. The SSPX is not a church. It is a society of priests who have had their faculties suspended and are not in full communion with the Church, but they are Catholics. They have no canonical status. The talks are about bringing them back into full communion.

That is entirely different than the Orthodox, which are a true Church, although we are separated.

If you do a Google search you can find many articles about the SSPX. Wikipedia has a pretty comprehensive one which covers the basics, although it is not the ultimate source of information. But it will help you understand about the SSPX.

I doubt that the Orthodox will. They are fiercely independent, even from each other, and tend to be split up along ethnic or national lines. Their Patriarchs would not, I think, agree to accepting the Holy Father as he is viewed in the west. Maybe, but I don’t think so.

As for the SSPX, some will probably return and some will not. That is the direction I think it will go. Ditto with the Anglicans and Episcopalians… Some have already returned but many Anglicans and Episcopalians are extremely progressive, having female Priests, Bishops and openly Homosexual members of the clergy.

As for any others, Protestants communities etc., I tend to doubt it. I don’t think they would see any real benefit in it for them. Besides that there is really a lot of bad blood between the Catholic Church and the protestaants. In fact many good protestants don’t even consider Catholics to be Christian at all.

In the end result the Catholic Church is much more interested in re-unification than are most other Churches or communities.
