my dad was a pack rat. He died at the end of February. My mom and I ended up selling most of the stuff to guys who worked in constuction (he had electrical, plumbing and carpentry stuff). The screws, nuts, and wire were taken to the recycling place by a neighbour who has a recycling licence. My mom could not put up the house until 6 months after his passing due to all the junk that he accumulated (God rest his soul).

My daughter said, at age 13: "Hey, Mom and Dad, I sure better die before you do because I don’t want to be left with all this JUNK!

But truly, if you walked into my house (and never went into the basement, garage, or attic), you would look around and say (as everyone does): What a charming and lovely home! What beautiful antiques!

So, at least the ‘habitation’ is pleasant. It’s just the non-habitable parts that are depressing. At least on the surface. Just don’t open any of the drawers int he sideboard!

Since none of us knows what the Lord’s plans are for us in terms of how long we will live, perhaps it may be possible to convince him to sell or give away some of the stuff to avoid leaving you or your children with the burden of having to get rid of it. People usually try to make things easier for their families by having a will, getting life insurance, buying cemetery plots, etc. Maybe they will also consider getting rid of excessive clutter if it is explained in that matter.

Or, maybe, if he is interested in helping out the less fortunate, you could suggest donating it to a church rummage sale, selling it and donating the money to charity, or donating the stuff to a Salvation Army store. If you itemize your tax return, you could take a tax deduction too.

Yup, yup, yup! :yup: Workin’ all o’ them angles!

I’m within easy distance of the GWB. ??? PM me if you know of something!
GWB???

I would just do a yahoo or yellow pages search for ‘ebay stores.’ They seem to be cropping up everywhere; I know of at least two near us, but you want something right in your neighborhood.

If you have antique dealers near you, you can always take stuff in to sell direct to them. Most will buy items that way. You may not get the best price, but it’s quick and easy if they happen to be looking for what you have. Again, let your fingers do the walking!

I had a dealer stop at one of my world-famous yard sales and jump on an old oak veneer pedestal table. We got a decent price and no haggling, unlike many other yard-sale ‘buyers.’
