Welcome to the Catholic Church. It sounds from what you say above that you have come from a non-liturgical protestant denomination. The Advent Wreath is not actually a Catholic tradition but one started by the protestant church in Germany in the 19th century. It was first used by Lutherans, then Anglicans and now us Catholics.
Advent is a great penetential season of preparation and I hope you will enjoy the wonderful hymns leading up to Christmas Day - the Advent lectionary is very rich indeed.
I came from Lutheran and didn’t know that eitherI did not know that.
Abrigham and Danzibr, welcome
Do continue to post your experiences.
I was in your shoes a year ago. This will be my first Christmas as a Confirmed Catholic. It is so exciting. And Christmas is a wonderful time of the year.
I remember my experiences in the RCIA and since my sponsor became ill (heart attack) I also volunteered to be a Sponsor this year. It has been an amazing experience to travel the path again with the young Hispanic lady I’m sponsoring. She is teaching me some of her family’s traditions as well. They are similar, but so different from the German/Lutheran ones I have experienced.
Abrigham and Danzibr, Welcome Home
