I’m a new christian and when I read it I was completely confused
our GOD AND LORD was getting circumcised?
((( On the eighth day, when it was time to circumcise him, he was named Jesus, the name the angel had given him before he had been conceived. )))

it took me aback 🤷
bible.cc/luke/2-21.htm

Circumcision was a required practice for traditional Jews. As Mary and Joseph were both Jewish, and Jesus by extension was also Jewish, then yes, he would have been circumcised. Why is that surprising?

Also, why did you make two identical topics?

Why does that surprise you? All Jewish boys were circumcised. It is an Old Testament commandment.

Yep. That’s what Paul is talking about in Galatians 4:4 – Jesus was “born under the Law”; in other words, as a human (a Jewish boy), he was required to do what the law asks of Jewish boys (namely, circumcision).

Jesus, completely Divine.
Jesus, completely Human.

At the same time, it turns out.

Jesus did everything you’d expect a human to do, including be a baby.

Jesus, being a human, growing up in a Jewish tradition, would certainly be circumcised on the eighth day.

Jesus experienced all sorts of human things - including being joyous, and sad, and angry.

Jesus ascended into Heaven - in his human body.

What do you find surprising about any of this?

sanderille, I imagine that it is sometimes difficult when one becomes a new Christian. So much to assimilate.
Welcome to the Christian faith,
and welcome the Catholic Answers 🙂

Jesus also had to eat, drink, go to the bathroom…the Divine Son became incarnate, with also meant all these ordinary things were part of His life on earth. As you know, the Jews were particular about cleanliness, like washing hands and utensils and so on, and in a world without running showers and modern plumbing were absent, circumcision was possibly originally a hygiene matter. Circumcision even often occurred amongst non-Jews until more recent times when it is more commonly frowned upon. The Jews made a ceremony of it. The great humility of God-made man…and when born, He wasn’t just a little child reclining in a manger, but for instance, whatever the cloth equivalent of diapers or nappies had to be changed.

Jesus doesn’t pretend to be fully human as well as fully God.
In order to teach us, witness to us, and save us, He takes upon Himself our humanity.
As Saint Paul wrote in his letter to the Hebrews:

"For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet was without sin".Hebrews 4:15

And you could find it helpful to read from John’s gospel chapter 1 where His eternal divinity and His human objectives are spoken of in a way that could help understanding also.

God BLESS you!

Oh how often we have to remind ourselves (in the Holy Spirit) of these truths…God Yes…but also a Man’s… Man…a guy’s…guy who liked wine and had a sense of humor…happy in spirit and heart…beautifully portrayed in that scene in ***The Passion of the Christ *** when Jesus (Jim Caviezel)…is showing his mother, Mary (Maia Morgenstern)… this dining table he had just finished making and she is trying it out…and telling Jesus that its too high for eating your food while seated…Jesus smiles at her with a twinkle in his eye…and then mimics a person half sitting and standing while eating…and says that is just right…and then Jesus quotes scripture to his Mary…with an even bigger smile:
Jesus: See, mother, I make all things new.”

Rev 21:5
English Revised Version
And he that sitteth on the throne said, Behold, I make all things new. And he saith, Write: for these words are faithful and true.

What an incredible God, Savior and Brother we all have in Christ Jesus!..simply incredible!

but I can not imagine yet that the GOD CREATOR OF THE WORLD AND EVERYTHINGS HAS A MOTHER
I read in quran of muslims that the GPOD has no mother no father no wife no son no partner
in there quran they tell —Say, “He is Allah , [who is] One,Allah , the Eternal Refuge. He neither begets nor is born,Nor is there to Him any equivalent.” Surat Al-'Ikhlāş (The Sincerity) it sounds like something logically accepted isn’t it ?
I still keep searching just be with me 😊 🤷

Christ is the One who fulfilled the Old Law for us. It is us who do not need to fulfill the Old Law because of our faith in Christ, not Christ himself …

This is one of the reasons why I want to be near Jesus: because God loved us so, He humbled himself to become one of us. He just didn’t appear out of thin air. He took upon himself what every human being experiences, including being born to a Mother. He gave himself up on the cross out of love, for our sake. What love! How can you not be moved by such love? How can you not love Him? He loved you first.

If you can imagine a God who is omnipotent and nothing is impossible to Him, then you can imagine a God being born to a Mother.
