Since today, December 9th, is the celebration of St. Juan Diego of Guadalupe, I thought it appropriate to post info on this popular, fully-approved Marian apparition.

Words of the Blessed Virgin spoken to Juan Diego
December 9th and 12th 1531
Guadalupe, Mexico

"Know for certain that I am the perfect and perpetual Virgin Mary, Mother of the True God . . . here I will show and offer all my love, my compassion, my help and protection to the people. I am your merciful Mother, the Mother of all who love me, of those who cry to me, of those who have confidence in me. Here I will hear their weeping and their sorrows . . . their necessities and misfortunes . . . Listen and let it penetrate your heart . . . Do not be troubled or weighed down with grief. Do not fear any illness or vexation, anxiety or pain. Am I not here who am your Mother? Are you not under my shadow and protection? Am I not your fountain of life? Are you not in the folds of my mantle? In the crossing of my arms? Is there anything else you need?"

each CCD session this morning, Spanish and English, will be dramatizing this beautiful story, so integral to our culture, and we will finish with manatias for la Virgen. no tamales, just juice and cookies. Tamales on Monday.

St. Juan Diego is one of my patron saints. This time of year is always a special one to me.

I love the feast day of Our Lady of Guadalupe…I have been to the Basilica twice. I just wish I was a practicing Catholic then, but I can tell you that she really reached out to me when I was there.

The Basilica is a beautiful place, and masses are constant.

If anyone can make a pilgrimage there, do so.
