Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Pondering the Magi following the star of light, and finding “the Child with His Mother”, I was mindful this morning of the short prayer: “Our Lady of Light, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, pray for us.” How true a prayer that is, when we consider that God the Holy Spirit overshadowed Mary and she conceived in her womb, the Word of God made Flesh! God sent His Son through Mary. She was filled with Him Who is Light.

Mary is Mother and Model of the Church. We too were filled with His Light at Baptism. We were infused with the indwelling of the Holy Trinity, and given the Gifts of Faith, Hope and Charity to know, love and serve God, to live in His Light. If we were baptized as infants, we could not possibly set out on our mission to carry Him into the world, but if baptized as adults we could. Each child of God is unique and He calls us and sanctifies us in time. He also waits on our cooperation with grace. God’s work in us is mysterious, but beautiful – as Light is!

Yesterday, I was reminded of these words from the First Letter of John:
…Now this is the message that we have heard from Him and proclaim to you: God is light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. If we say, “We have fellowship with Him,” while we continue to walk in darkness, we lie and do not act in truth. But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, then we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of his Son Jesus cleanses us from all sin…
(I John 1: 5 - 7)
Our Lady of Light, Spouse of the Holy Spirit, pray for us. Intercede for us that we may walk in the Light of God as you did, on this earth.

Yes, on this cold but beautifully sunny Tuesday morning I can truly feel the Light of Christ within and around me as He sends His Spirit upon us and guides us to Him, through His Blessed Mother Mary. May we always go to her, through whom we find so many graces and blessings from God.

May God bless you abundantly and forever! 🙂

Thanks, Richard,

It seems to me that Mary our Mother gives all her children a share in her relationship with the Holy Spirit. We are enabled by grace - from God and by her intercession – to be in a similar way “overshadowed by the Holy Spirit” and to receive Christ, growing in us toward maturity. It is a wonderful mystery – how God works in each unique and unrepeatable soul!
