Hello. I have recently discovered (and become attached to) the chaplet of seven sorrows and its promises as allegedly revealed to St. Bridget. I am aware that Our Lady of Sorrows is thoroughly orthodox and is even a part of the liturgical year, and I am also aware that the chaplet of seven sorrows is also thoroughly approved (even having several indulgences attached to it). What I am curious about are its promises: peace in our families, Mary’s presence in our work, etc. I can’t seem to find anything officially pronouncing them as worthy of believe like her many apparitions, etc. It’s all some second hand reference to an unnamed decree written in January of some year. Does anyone know anything about this? If so, could you point me in the right direction?

It was approved by Pope Pius VII in 1815.
Private devotions are just that: private. You can believe or not believe them.
I personally do believe in many of the Marian devotions, as I have received many graces and favors through Our Lady. Lately I see a lot of threads where people discount these things, but I don’t think Our dear Lord fears that His people would love His mother “too much”.
The important thing to remember is that we practice these devotions out of love, and piety, not because we think we can “cash in” on graces or just to get what we desire.
Neither Our Lady or Our Lord are vending machines. We pray because we believe and we love.
Be at peace, and may the Blessed Virgin bless and keep you under her mantle, safe from harm.

I, too, have a strong devotion to the Seven Sorrows Chaplet (sometimes called a Rosary).

I have been reciting this every day for several years. It is a great comfort to me.
