Our LIttle Roddy McDuff Lost his battle

My little Roddy lost his battle with cancer on Oct 20, 2005. I wanted to thank all those people on this forum who have been so very kind to me during our fight to give him more time with us on the earth. But God knew it was time, that Roddy’s job on earth was done and that he was just too sick to go on. Thank you all again. I really appreciate it.

You all need to know that apparently that little rascal touched quite a few hearts during his short time here. About six or seven kids in the neighborhood made ‘sympathy cards’ for me and brought them to the house, grown men from the AKC have been calling sobbing that they cannot believe Roddy will no longer be around to ‘kick golden retriever butt in the obedience ring’ and some of the older parishoners at St. Joseph’s have told me how much they loved seeing him sitting patiently outside the Adoration chapel waiting for me.

I have often said that God works through all his creatures. He certainly worked through little Roddy.

Sorry for the loss of your doggie friend. He was fortunate to have been loved to the end.

Leslie, I am so sorry for the loss of your beloved Roddy. I will keep you in my prayers as you survive this tough time.
 
That’s so sad Leslie. I’m sorry for your loss. I’ve always felt so bad when one of my pets died. You’re in my prayers.
 
I am so sorry to hear of the loss of your pet, Roddy. God blessed you in a special way when Roddy came into your life. I am so glad that you got to know Roddy. Please accept my condolences. As time passes, I hope you are able to love another pet, but another will never be your little Roddy.
 
Much sympathy and condolences from one dog lover to another… Prayer for you as you go through this time, and prayers that God will see fit to bring another dog that is right for you into your life at the right time - they never replace the ones we have lost, but I have found that they do make life without the ones we have lost easier…
 
I am so very sorry about your beloved Roddy. I think God wanted us to have an idea of what unconditional love is like, so He created dogs.

Losing a pet is heartwrenching. Perhaps you could put a birdfeeder or a St. Francis statue in your garden/yard as a memorial to your precious dog. Thankfully, he isn’t suffering anymore. It’s so hard to watch animals suffer. God bless you.

P.S. Have you made a deposit in your Jesus box about this matter? I love that idea, and the box I was planning to use was confiscated by my 10 daughter and made into a mailbox for her clubhouse created from blankets. I guess I could us a rubbermaid kitchen container for my Jesus box… but that’s off-topic. In any case, I’m praying for you.

It must be hard to lose a living being that you take care of every day and that is a companion to you. God bless you during your time of loss.
 
Dear Leslie, I know that your heart is aching right now. What a dear little fellow Roddy sounded like! I am so sorry that he is gone, but you were truly blessed to have him in your life…
Someone has said that “pets are the only love that money can buy”, & it is surely true that there is no love like that of a furry creature who adopts you (we know that is how it really works!), and becomes a part of your life…
You are in my prayers as you grieve the loss of Roddy.

It’s just my personal opinion, but, I bet there is a special place in heaven with St. Francis with all of our pet’s. I think that if we need a pet in heaven in order for us to be perfectly happy, that they will be there. No one knows what God has in store for those who love Him. God bless you.

I know there are tons of theological reasons not to believe this, but I have always felt this way too, or at least WANTED to (I have been told millions of times by different people all the different arguments against it - so please - no one feel they have to add to it)… This summer I ended up picking up Zig Ziglar’s Conversations with My Dog at the public library. Mostly because it had a Corgi on the cover 😃 (His dog is a corgi) It was a fairly interesting book, nothing spectacular, (but it was an interesting idea - especially since I tend to imagine what my dogs are saying to me) but what I really enjoyed was his explanation for why he believes that there will be a place for dogs in heaven. Its not so much that it actually makes a better point for it than anything else, but to me it was a very touching portion of the book, so much so that I copied the entire thing down in my journal.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

I’m so sorry for your loss sweetie. Daisy the Danger Dog and I will be thinking of you and we will keep you in our prayers.

I think a statue of St. Francis (as a few others have suggested) would be a wonderful way to remember your beloved Roddy.

If our dear pets are in heaven, I know your Roddy is being chased by my precious Zoe the ferret right now (she LOVED to play with dogs).

The Rainbow Bridge is a real tear jerker all right. Here I sit all misty eyed.
I do believe there is a reason that Dog spelled beckwards is God. Dog is the only animal on earth that gives total and unconditional love to us humans.
LSK, theological arguement aside, my hope is that you and Roddy will see each other again in joy.
My heart goes out to you.
