Sometimes I think being able to forget things overtime is a good thing specially to forget the bad experience we face day to day in this earth and to forget each others mistakes, if we had a perfect memory then we will be remembering every tiny mistake for each others.

Do you think that we will carry those earthy memories with us to heaven? don’t you think it might cause some people to rewind the mistakes of others?. But at the same time if we wiped out our memory prior to enter heavens then we will not have the experience of knowing the good and evil which we gained in this earthy life.

Thoughts?

I believe we will have the memory, but because we have reached the attainment of entering Heaven where nothing bad shall dwell, those thoughts would not even come up, we wouldn’t have an grudges or resentment and we would be completely satisfied with the way everything happened because we have attained eternal salvation.

One of the points you make is a valid one. To take an extreme example, a serial killer who suddenly suffered a catastrophic memory lapse (eg. car acccident) would not be able to repent, as he would not have memories to repent for. But he would still be as guilty as hell, since he did carry out the murders.

Yet at death, I believe his memory would be restored as he would now be a spiritual being only, and no longer dependent on his damaged natural abilities.

I’m biased in this observation as I’ve said a million times my father appeared / materialised in my room the night he died. We argued and conversed, and he could obviously not only see his actions in retrospect, but could even see some future events.

We also communicated somehow. He was going through the actions of normal speech etc, but he no longer had a brain, voice box, lungs, lips etc. as they were all back with his dead body several kilometres away.

I still don’t know what sort of interface we used. To all intents and purposes I was
communicating physically; he must have been communicating spiritually somehow.

So I think all those Alzheimer’s victims, accident victims etc. who have lost some part of their memory will find at death that it is restored, since these things are a result of failures with the natural body. Which means I think mind is not dependent on the brain alone.

Bob - I for one believe you 110%. My spouse was depressed for two weeks after her mother passed away. She woke up one night (I was sleeping in another room) and her mom came to her in a spiritual form in the accompany of an Angelic presence who was physically in the background. Her mom conversed with her interiorly, let her know that everything was good and gave her what can be described as a “hug” several times. My wife was completely overwhelmed from the event and her sorrow disappeared immediately. What I did not say yet is her mom was in a wheel chair for many years, unable to move as she was stricken with MS before she died. The story is richer than I describe here … God is not limited and can work his miracles as his wisdom chooses.

Well, I suppose Christ himself is an example of this sort of rebuilt body - scourged, crucified, crowned with thorns, and speared to the heart. Yet a few days later He’s talking to Mary, turning up in closed rooms. chatting up two disciples on the way to Emmaus, and eating fish on the seaside.

The only difference with Christ is that He seemed to retain the wounds of the crucifixion and the lance. Although His was a resurrected physical body - your mother-in-law and my father were still in a some sort of spiritual guise.

I’d say the outcome for your wife’s mother was a lot happier than it was for my father. And frankly, I think he’s in Hell, with all due respect. I remember the scream, and it was just sheer terror to the core. It was so frightening I started to scream. Yet all I could see was him.

He did ask me to forgive him viz. “Son, you’ve got to forgive me! If you don’t you’ll destroy yourself!” I argued back, but he responded, **“It’s not for my sake! It’s for you! * It’s too late for me!”/*B]

Which sort of reminds me of Paul’s comment that if you forgive someone, you pour hot coals on their head. I’ve always had a bit of trouble with that one, but I doubt if Caiaphus, Ananias, Pilate, Herod and the rest are getting any comfort from the fact Christ was prepared to forgive them, especially if they didn’t repent. Their judgement is probably all the worse for that reason.**

Bob,

Thank you for sharing such a personal story. I’ve been thinking about it for a couple of days and discussed it today with my wife. I’ve heard numerous stories of people in the process of passing over from this life to heaven. My grandmother told of her brother passing over on his hospital bed, sitting up and seeing his mother saying, “momma!” He then immediately passed away. My brother in law knew immediately when his father in law passed away as he felt his presence. The FIL lived across the street and when my BIL went there the FIL had died. I can’t say that I’ve heard stories of people passing over from this life to “hell”. The lack of hearing these stories over my lifetime leads me to doubt not what you experienced but what the cause was. The devil can appear as an angel of light. Who’s to say that it wasn’t the devil appearing in the guise of your father and he did so to make you believe that your father went to hell. He may have done this expecting you to react in dispair. The devil does not know that future and he may have expected a different reaction from you and you did the opposite, turning to Christianity. This kind of makes some sense to me as God uses evil to bring good. As such, I would recommend praying for your Father as he could be in purgatory.

What’s your thoughts? Pork
