Just wanted to share our joy! The sanctuary used to be a huge, empty space, painted in “real estate white” with an altar, a large crucifix, and a few chairs. There is a picture of the former crucifix, tabernacle, and altar on the upper left of the page. The organ and piano used to be in the front on the left, taking up the area in which many more pews could have been placed. The renovation has given us more seating, a true choir loft, and a truly beautiful church – thanks be to God!

Very nicely done! The statue of the Deposition on the right isn’t a choice I would have made, since it somewhat overpowers and visually conflicts with the central crucifix, but with that lone exception this looks great. Nice to see an altar of such substantial appearance (with the Benedictine arrangement? I can’t tell), and a central tabernacle, too.

Gertie, how beautiful! And not just the renovation - from looking through the blog, it is clear you belong to a wonderful parish.

Enjoy it!

Yes, you are very blessed!! :extrahappy: I love seeing churches restored, it really shows us what kind of times we’re in. If I can help it, I never want to see an ugly parish again! Why put so much effort into uglying the House of God? “Inconceivable! ;)”

I’m just guessing, because we joined the parish about the time the renovation started, that the two side statues were placed there because of lack of wall space anywhere else in the church. It’s all windows! There are two side altars at the back of the church, one of our Blessed Mother, and the other with the church’s old crucifix.

Concerns about their placement aside, what I really love about the two statues is that they are no longer painted all gold. The new, realistic coloring makes them so much nicer. 👍

It is indeed a wonderful parish. I especially love the adoration chapel (housed in another building) and how many people I see stop by on a Sunday afternoon. In general, there are just a lot of people really trying to grow in their faith in this parish. It’s a good place to be.

At the first mass in the “new” church, our pastor addressed the issue of whether we should have spent so much money on this renovation. He pointed out that in our society, with its emphasis on everything but God, this renovation is a testament to what really matters, and gives us a beautiful space in which our souls can rest with God. Well, he said it much, much better than that, but I couldn’t agree more. I have no problem saying that I donated money to this project 😃

Thanks, everyone, for sharing in our joy!

Hey , you should email the people at the NLM and show them the before and after pictures. They might post it on thier blog.
