I’m getting married in May, so for a surprise, I ordered a papal blessing through our diocese. I think I mailed the check on January 9th, and they just emailed me to let me know it arrived. My response was, “Wow, that was really fast!”. Anyhow, I’d like to get it framed, and I’m guessing some of you have done this and may have some advice. I don’t know if I should just take it to a store or try to do it myself. Thanks for the help!

Take it to a framing shop and they can walk you through picking out a matte and framing material.

Congratulations!

We did it ourselves. It is a non-standard size so we had to cut the mat. If we weren’t so “poor” at the time, we would have had it done at the framing store. Maybe I’ll still do that.

How do you go about getting a papal blessing? Can married people get it as well?

I just contacted the diocese and told them I wanted one, and gave them a check to cover the shipping and materials. I believe it has to be done in advance of your wedding, but you can get them for anniversaries too I think…

This is what we did. We took it to a little mom-and-pop framing shop. I had asked someone at one of the national chain craft stores about framing, and they recommended the wrong kind of adhesive (which would have damaged the hand-painted decoration on the blessing  ).

We took ours to a framing store and had it framed.
Father read it out and presented it to us at the altar after our wedding mass and before we signed the register.
