Thank you so much for finding that. And yes, we should clos ethe thread, but one final thing needs to happen.

Now, all we need to do is get the “apologist”, Michelle Arnold, to remove her statement that gum is not food as she posted on Ask the Apologist site and reference this article. I tried to email her yesterday, but she did not reply. Could someone else PM her, point out this article, and ask her to correct her answer?
Thank you.
The person with the idea is always the one appointed to the task, Dave.😉

I have pm’d her with the factual information I posted, but to no avail. I will try again with this new info and see if she recants. We don’t want to have misinformed Catholics on our forum.😃

Eucharistic fast
Question from on 07-26-2005:
Does chewing gum in the one hour fast before receiving Communion break the fast or going up to receive with the gum still in the mouth?

Answer by Rev. Mark J. Gantley, JCL on 08-21-2005:
The fast from any food other than water or medicine includes gum.
Fr. Gantley does not cite any Church documents that state that the eucharistic fast includes gum. It becomes a matter of opinion and on matters of opinion, EWTN’s Q&A forum policies state:
They [the forum moderators] can be expected to give answers that conform to the teaching of the Church, or which represents an educated application of the principles contained in that teaching, or in matters of opinion their opinion. Please keep in mind that where the Church has not explicitly defined a matter even saints have disagreed (source).
