Don’t we have to mindful of charity in these situations? Like…how hurt and/or secretly devastated are your grandparents going to be if you and hubby don’t show up? I think you’ve mentioned you only have one other sister…so would Easter be ‘ruined’ if, even though you explained very gently your reasoning, given that they aren’t Catholic–they truly might not understand and be far too hurt to interpret your choice not to attend as a witness to the faith?
Dear Princess_Abby,

That is very much like what Jimmy Akins said in support of going; their very lack of understanding makes them at risk to receive a bad message about Catholicism in the event the Catholics did not attend on grounds of it being Good Friday.

Here’s a link to the CA Live radio show calendar. Just go to Thursday April 6 and click on the 3:00 program.

Ukrainian? They are not Orthodox then, and on the Great and Holy Fast? Easter for Orthodoxy is a week after ours. If so, you have nothing no worries. If not, then I’d go along with the be-there-but-your-husband-shouldn’t-eat-much crowd. You go ahead, in my opinion, as you are eating for two, insomuch as you are expecting.

My family is Orthodox, but, unfortunately, not practicing. They are not anti- our beliefs, they just really don’t understand. So I want to make sure that whatever we do reflects positively on Catholicism. I am always praying for their reversion or conversions.

Thanks for all of the opinions so far. If the dinner does end up on Good friday, we will go but do our best to observe the fast and abstinence (joyfully).
