A buddy of mine emailed this to me. Needless to say, it doesnt surprise me given some of the culprits, but at the same time, I never cease to be amazed at what comes out of the mouths of people who claim to speak for “middle america” as well as state they are Christians 😦

Former Reagan administration Secretary of Education Bill Bennett: “[Y]ou could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down.” [Salem Radio Network’s Bill Bennett’s Morning in America, 9/28/05]

Pat Robertson: “If [Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez] thinks we’re trying to assassinate him, I think that we really ought to go ahead and do it.” [Christian Broadcasting Network’s The 700 Club, 8/22/05]

Bill O’Reilly to San Francisco: “*f Al Qaeda comes in here and blows you up, we’re not going to do anything about it. … You want to blow up the Coit Tower? Go ahead.” [Westwood One’s The Radio Factor with Bill O’Reilly, 12/8/05]

[moderator notes: quote too long, edited. Please review forum guidelines before posting]

Thanks to Wandering Aimlessly, here is a link (you were suppose to provide that as well):

I take careful note (not that you were trying to hide the fact) that all these quotes are from conservatives. I do hope you are not telling us that left-wing liberals are all men and women of perfection who have never uttered a boner in their lives, now are you? When I see their fax pas listed with relish along with the conservatives, then I’ll laugh. 😉

Regardless of the politics of the people to whom these mouths are attached, the comments are reprehensible.
I am sure that there will be a follow up very soon to show that some libs have made equally horrendous comments.
The comments will equally abhorrent.

Tucker Carlson: “Canada is a sweet country. It is like your retarded cousin you see at Thanksgiving and sort of pat him on the head. You know, he’s nice, but you don’t take him seriously. That’s Canada.” [MSNBC’s The Situation with Tucker Carlson, 12/15/05]
:hmmm: Pretty good insight here. JUST KIDDING Canadians!
Focus on the Family founder and chairman James C. Dobson: Same-sex marriage would lead to “marriage between daddies and little girls … between a man and his donkey.” [Focus on the Family radio program, 10/6/05]
Well, he’s got something here, truly. There are people who want to be able to marry their close relations and others who want to be able to marry their pets. It’s the logical conclusion to men marrying men and women marrying women, which is also unnatural and immoral.

Well, some of these remarks are only hyperbole. As for the rest, they are so absurd as to be truly laughable. So, let’s see some from the left so we can all cluck our tongues and laugh at one another, okay? 😉

#1 Outrageous Statement (possibly of all time)

Sen. Dick Durbin D-IL: said:
“If I read this to you and did not tell you that it was an FBI agent describing what Americans had done to prisoners in their control, you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime — Pol Pot or others — that had no concern for human beings,”

Found the source of these statements. These were cut and pasted from a web site that reprinted stuff it Media Matters. One possible site: Link

Being Canadian and knowing how this country as a whole has behaved in recent years, I agree with Tucker Carlson.

Actually, what’s shocking about this quote is the dishonesty of the people who first used it out of context to make it seem as if Bennett was a racist. He was trying to point out just how monstrous it is to condone abortion because it makes crime rates go down. That position is the racist position. Bennett was just exposing it for what it was by drawing the link between crime and the African-American population. That link is a reality and pointing it out is not racist. African-Americans are disproportionately involved in committing crimes because they are disproportionately poor and underprivileged in this society. Using abortion as a form of crime control amounts to a genocidal war on the poor. That is all Bennett was saying. Yes, he was unwise in how he said it, given how easily remarks can be taken out of context in this sound-bite era. But what he was saying was laudable, not reprehensible.

Not to split hairs, but that particular quote is extremely out of context…I heard the original broadcast and this is cherry picked.

As it says in the Bible- There is no God. << a good example of a non-contextual quote!

Here is the full quote:
Bill Bennett:
But I do know that it’s true that if you wanted to reduce crime, you could – if that were your sole purpose, you could abort every black baby in this country, and your crime rate would go down. That would be an impossible, ridiculous, and morally reprehensible thing to do, but your crime rate would go down.
That statement is 100% accurate. As blacks commit a disproportionate number of crimes compared to the size of their population. I’m not advocating that it is genetic, just that there is a corrolation (for whatever reason- poverty, education, whatever), and that is essentially what Bennett was saying.

If you listen to the entire program, he was responding to a caller who posited that abortion could have a positive impact upon society. His response was that it was unethical to abort children for positive gain…he used the abortion of black babies as an example that would decrease future crime by eliminating the segment of the population that was committing the most crimes. He then called it a morally reprehensible act. I don’t see what the fuss is about…

How was Senator Durbin’s remark “outrageous”?

If I described a regime that used heat and cold to torture people, or who chained prisoners to the floor in their own filth, wouldn’t you assume I was speaking of some kind of monstrous totalitarian government?

Like Bennett, Durbin was describing an outrageous reality, not being outrageous himself.

“I voted for the war before I voted against it.”

Or was that in 2004. Time just flies.
