Hi I just wondered if I was the only geek out there using a palm / pocket pc device for praying with, reading scripture, holy books etc etc.

So far I have the following free items on my palm mobile phone device :
  • Douay Rheims Challoner Holy Bible (using Bible+ freeware)
  • Liturgy of the Hours (mobile PDF from Liturgy of the Hours Apostolate)
  • Virtual Rosary with four sets of meditations and also
  • Chaplet of Divine Mercy
  • Franciscan Crown
  • 7 Sorrows
  • The Holy Rosary palm software - more based on images than scriptue in comparison to virual Rosary
  • Daily Mass Readings & homily, Religious News and Catechism clips from Mobile Gabriel
  • Ignatian prayer from Sacred Space
  • Here are some of the ebooks I have downloaded for free from the net onto my palm device for carrying about with me all the time (requires “documents to go” or equivalent - not free)
  • A Miscellany of Men (GK Chesterton)
  • Apologists Cheat Sheet (Christopher Wong)
  • Catholic Catechism
  • Catholic Tracts (Catholic Answers)
  • Cloud of Unknowing
  • Confessions of St. Patrick
  • Cardinal Newman Stations of the Cross
  • Crossing the Threshold of Hope - Pope John Paul the Great
  • Defensive Prayers
  • Dialogue of St. Catherine of Siena
  • “Discovering Prayer” - LOTH guide
  • Divine Mercy Image and 3 O Clock prayer - palm device alarm set to 3pm for this
  • Divine Office Partner Prayers - my own personal petitions and prayers for use before/after the office - includes running tally of mortal sins for my next confession!
  • Dolorous Passion of Our Lord Jesus Christ - as used in the scripting of Mel Gibsons “The Passion”
  • Eugenics and Other Evils - GK Chesterton
  • Heretics - GK Chesterton
  • Letter to the Friend of The Cross - St. Louis de Montfort
  • Letters of St. Therese to Her Sister Celine
  • Love of Eternal Wisdom - St. Louis de Montfort
  • … plus many others too numerous to mention!
Please let me know if you know of any other pieces of catholic palm software or ebooks, or if you would like any details of the above items and how to get hold of them then just leave a post or PM me and I’ll be in touch.

And remember - if you see someone who looks like they may be playing with their mobile phone in Church - think twice - they may be praying the Holy Rosary or the Divine Office!!

God bless,

Deek (the ever-so Catholic geek).

I use mine all the time. It is my memory which has become very short.

I would love to use my Visor Deluxe more, but am afraid it lacks the memory to hold much. I believe it only has 256k memory; I can’t recall now. Where did you get all the freeware? I do have virtual rosary on it though 😃 .

I don’t use one. It’s just one more thing for me to lose, or set down and spill something on or step on

Great list. I’ve used nearly all of those, but I don’t have all the E-Books. Looking for The Rule by St. Benedict - the book is small, but it would be nice to add to my palm.

I also have the Stations of the Cross, but I don’t remember where I got it.

God Bless,

Robert.

I have Palm Bible+ installed, with the Revised Standard Version 1973 edition (close to the Catholic Edition, but with the books in ecumenical order, and most of the corrections in the CE). I also split-screen it with the Greek NT NA27 and the Septuagint.

On occasion, I also load the Liturgy of the Hours from www.liturgyhours.org. I also have a copy of St. John of the Cross’s Dark Night of the Soul.

I still use my DayMinder and little scraps of paper.

I’ve save a fortune in batteries 🙂

Hi,

Thank you Derek! I love this website!

Thanks, I had been using Mobile Gabriel, but the last time I tried it, Fr. had been transferred and it wasn’t available.

I also had the entire catechism at one time, but when my battery gave out I lost it and it is no longer available.

You can find a lot of freeware at palmgear.com. I got there a prayerbook, some games and also software for NFP charts. I found some Chesterton books there, too.

I have three versions of the bible on my Palm plus some of the ebooks listed by others. I also have numerous apologetic references that I have created for use in my discussions with people. The PDA is great little device.

Until recently I used a Sony with the Palm OS. I set it down at a coffee shop and someone walked off with it. I only hope that all the Catholic materials contained in it will at some point be helpful to the perpetrator.

I have a Palm Zire 72. I have much Catholic content and frequently view Mobile Gabriel and Virtual Rosary. In addition I use the program Handstory namo.com/products/handstory/
This program allows web clipping and auto sychronizing with any web site. Therfore I can sync daily with Catholic News Service, and other Catholic sites. In addition, I can clip articles, encyclicals, and apostolic letters which has allowed me to read many of them.

The Palm Zire also includes RealPlayer so I can put MP3s on my PDA and listen to them in my car and wherever I have the time. (I use an adapter to listen on my car radio). There is a huge amount of audio content on the web and I have purchased quite a bit too. With a 256MB SD card, I can get about 15 hours of content on one card.

Technology can have a great positive impact on the Catholic Church and in many ways the resurgence in faith is in large part due to effective use of technology to spread the truth.

I have Pocket PC, and I wish to learn more about this software.

Here are a bunch of ‘Classic’ Catholic eBooks in MS Reader (for Pocket PC)

ruthannzaroff.com/catholicclassics/

I have all of these, plus a .wma of Pope John Paul II leading the Joyful Mysteries

I also sync up the daily Mass readings from www.mobilegabriel.com and the Liturgy of the Hours from both Universalis and LiturgyHours.org

I also have 3 Bibles from www.Olivetree.com installed ( NAB, D-R, and Vulgate)

I’ve even created a little web page that runs in the IE on my PocketPC. It has several ‘tabs’ with all the nice Apogetics Scripture and ECF quotes that I need.

Mormons at the door? I got a tab for that.

Evangelicals don’t like Tradition? I got a tab for that too?

Mary, Eucharist, Church etc…

😃

Anyone know where I can find Palm Reader software for PocketPC OS? I have had that before and it can read *.pdb files on PocketPC device. Help.

Never mind my previous post! I have found another way to convert Word file format to MS Reader format. It is nice add-on feature!
