Pampering your pets

Hmmm, my dogs each have their own beds and blankets! And I keep blankets on the couches for 2 of them because, being thin-skinned Whippets, they get cold easily and they love to cuddle up.

One dog always sleeeps on the bed with us, another one usually comes up in the morning. The big dog stays on her nice bed on the floor.

My Jack Russell Terrier thinks polar fleece is exactly what her princess butt needs. Hyper, yes, but also loves to snuggle.

She has to rough it at night and stay on the first floor with the sofas, her crate, and a little bed she created in the coat closet.

She is spayed and all my pets have been or will be – except the forty odd goldfish.

Taking care of Gods creatures is virtuous and holy.
You can however if not careful make an idol out of them.

BELIEVE ME - I know, I am a horse owner and certified horse nut.
I try to make a practice of thanking God for them as His gift often, and try to give gifts to the poor as often as I can.

Also, I dedicate the business I do with the horses, and the competitions I go to - to the Lord and His Blessed Mother.

I have a Lab mix named Daisy, she is a bundle of love wrapped in black fur. I feel it is my job to give her whatever she needs to be healthy and live a long happy life. I also feel she is a great blessing in my life, as well as to my husband.

Last week when he came home while she was at the Vet recovering from her stick eating (and then getting part of it stuck in the roof of her mouth) he and I both realized how much joy she brings into our home and how much she pulls us together and helps make us a family.

I must admit, yes, I treat her like our child, because there is a great possibility that I am infertile. She and any other pups we get may be the only “children” my husband and I have. We hope to be blessed with a child, and we made sure that we found a dog with a good disposition and a love for children.

Daisy has recovered from the stick incident, and is happily romping around. She also is learning that sticks should not be her breakfast.

Does anyone know if they make a St. Francis Medal for a dog’s collar?

Yes, they do. My cat has one.

He got it at the blessing of the pets, about two years ago at my parish. The church collected donations for the local animal shelter after the blessing.

I love my dog, Honeybun.

She is very pretty and ladylike. She’s got big round eyes and pretty lashes. She’s a compact Lab/Cocker hybrid. Her main job is to keep me company. I am single, so I like the company of a dog while I’m puttering around my home. She sleeps on top of the blanket down at the foot of the bed most nights, unless it’s very hot or very cold. If it’s super hot, she moves down stairs to the porch by the windows. If it’s too cold, she gets an added blanket.

She is always glad (I’m personifying here) to see me. And even though I know she’s not human, I’m always glad somebody is glad to see me. I always look forward to seeing her, and giving her a little hug and a scratch.

I enjoy having her around very much, and I think she knows how to cheer me up. This is very important to me. When I was little, I thought dogs went to heaven, but now I know they don’t, that they don’t have an immortal soul like we humans. But that’s o.k. because heaven must be really great if you don’t need dogs there. I need a dog down here to make this place bearable sometimes.

I know someday Honeybun will die, and I’ll be a basketcase for about a day. Then the sadness will fade and she’ll be a memory. But then I can always get another dog. For now, she’s my girl. I guess you could say I’m a “one dog gal.”

I don’t pamper my pets but I have let them “steal” a blanket from me.

My cat loved it, and then my dog (a big german shepard) would sort of help it along in falling off my bed.
My next dog, a Jack Russel, loved it to death, and would do anything to lie on it.

My current dog fell in love with it and so I just gave up and its hers for good.

I feed her good food.

I even take her to “dog day care” once every other month, but thats becuase she has no dogs to play with, and I want to keep her socialized for when I visit my parents (Who do have animals). She’s from a shelter and so those dogs tend to “forget” how to behave/interact and every now and then I need to remind her.
