Because to concentrate on the guy who did not dress right is unimportant to the main point of the story, which was to support Jesus’s authority as God.

It was just a lead in to that main point. Nothing more. To concentrate on that part of the parable only detracts from that very important message.

It’s also the parable where we get “render unto **Ceaser **what belongs to Ceaser” which the Pharisees should we not give tribute unto Ceaser? With which Jesus threw it right back in their faces saying “render unto Ceaser’s that which is Ceaser’s”.

Uh, no.

It’s not wise to “deprecate” any portion of the wisdom in any piece of scripture (or tradition). All of it is important.

Anyway, uh, I didn’t say God’s authority, which non-Catholics deprecate in not listening to God’s Church “well enough”, wasn’t important, nor did I say that “being fashionable” is more important than Jesus’ divinity.

No detail within the deposit of faith is unimportant.

The reason that the “cleanliness and suitableness” of one invited to the wedding is unimportant to a protestant is that their sins are “covered” and not “cleansed” and “appreciated in sorrow”.

Lot of stuff flying around here. I’ll just add:

Original invited guests = Israel. But they chose not to come.

Folks in the streets = Gentiles being invited to the table. With Christ’s coming, the path to salvation is open to all.

Person without garment = one who has been invited (ie, hears the word) but is not prepared (ie, is justified and sanctified).

Our priest in his homily on this passage made an interesting point: God calls everyone, but many people reject his call or choose to approach God on their terms.
