Has anyone here gone through this Bible study? My pastor’s sister had done it, and he suggested it as something our Family Life apostolate look into. It sounds like a lot of fun.

The basic idea is that you get a video with four Andy Griffith episodes on it. You watch one and then go to the study guide, which focuses on life lessons to be learned.

It’s published by Thomas Nelson Publishers, a Christian publisher. It’s not Catholic, but it seems its lessons are pretty universal.

If you’re familiar with this Bible study course, please fill us in a little on your experience with it.

Thanks,

Susie

I have never seen this series but it does sound interesting. One thing about the old shows is that they weren’t afraid to bring God into the equation in a positive way. My mother bought a DVD with three Lassie Christmas specials from the sixties for my daughter. It was cool to see little Timmy kneeling beside his bed at night to say his prayers, helping to feed a homeless family, and other acts of human kindness. You said this was not Catholic, but it is Christian. Well, as Catholics, we are also Christians. I am a recent convert from the protestant side of the fence. I still read many Christian books, and still listen to Christian music. I once heard a homily where the priest talked about not shooting the messenger. He said that we as Catholics often put on blinders that prevent us from hearing the message that others may have simply because they are not Catholic. He said we should always listen to the message, because often the message is an important one. He also said we should be strong in our faith, and obsiously be careful to discern right from wrong in regards to the message. I say, go for it!
