This has been discussed in a post in the Wolrd News Forum, but I will repost this here, as I feel more people will see it. I hope that is ok.

In general, it is about this case where a ten year old girl in Paraguay was raped and got pregnant. The government (Catholic country 🙂 ) does not allow for an abortion (unless somebody’s life is directly in danger, if I understood that right, which they say is not the case here).

We catholics of course are strictly against abortion.
Rape and child pregnancy do not justify a murder. As somebody has well pointed out on the other forum, the baby too is a victim! And needs to be protected.

My question. I got a petition per mail from an organization that does such petitions, to sign to call for the governement to allow the abortion. As on Tuesday apparently they will look at the law again anyway.
Of course I did not sign it.

But I wondered why there is not counter-petition. To ask the government to stay strong. Does anybody here know if such a petition extists? Or do you know of an e-mail address where people could write to ask the governemnt to stay strong against pressure form outside, and so they see the whole world is not for abortion??

Even considered starting my own petition.

Ok now something personal. I have been battling scrupulosity. I don’t feel up for this by myself. I even took asked my spiritual advisor if I could take an exception from the rule (becaus eof my scrupulosity, about what to do about doubtful sins and obligations) and ask something… he said yes, and then he told me no I am not “obligated” to do it myself… but still somehow it would be good wouldn’t it…

As this whole thing causes stress and anxiety, i posted on this forum plus on the 40 days for life facebook page in the country where I live (I am in Europe) if somebody might want to help.
Plus I emailed CitzienGo.

Not gotten any replies yet.

I don’t feel up to doing this myself.
Feels complicated, makes me nervous, feels stressful.
Maybe if some people could do it together… problem though is that a big part of the day I have no internet access as I work outside…

avaaz org and citizen go have possibilites to create petitions:

secure.avaaz.org/en/paraguays_choice_loc/?fpla

citizengo.org/en/create-your-petition

Has anybody done this before? Would anybody be willing to help? Would it do any good at all?
Can somebody help, this thing stresses me out a bit :).

I don’t know of any such effort.

Frankly, I am not sure that pressuring s government, of which one is not a citizen, to uphold its own law would make a difference.

I was in the other thread about this, but the more I think about it, the more I really wonder what is going on when its even possible for a 10 yo girl to become pregnant…Why would God allow this to happen?

The more stories I hear like this, are really making me think the creation of a baby/ getting pregnant is more akin to a mass production assembly line versus something that is supposed to be a beautiful thing, where God breathes life into each and every individual fetus…but a 10 yo girl!!!

Are you saying that it is “odd” that nature has it that a 10 a girl should be fertile, or are you saying God should intervene to prevent certain rapes?

Well yes I also had that thought, that is what they already want to do, so of course there is no petition for this side.

It might be good thought that they know that the international community is not completely on the other side.

Yesterday when searching the net I saw no article newer than 4 days old, so I do not know how things stand, are they really considering changing the law?

Does anybody here know who is most responible in this case? I looked for a government page for Paraguay… does anybody know whom I and maybe also others could e-mail a letter of support, not to yield to pressure?

Does Paraguay have an ambassador or other diplomatic post in your country?

Just searched.
Not really.
I live in croatia, but am a citizen of Switzerland.
I looked for an embassy of Paraguay in Croatia, but there is just the one in Vienna, I think that one may be responeible for the whole region of countries here. there is an e-maila ddress. Should I e-mail them maybe?? Ask my facebook friends, especially catholic ones, to do the same?
That is an idea.

I also sent an inquiery to care2; another petition site. About what it would involve to create a petition. Because, to be honest, I have no idea how that works, would I at the end have to send all the signatures somewhere? I feel it is too much for me, on the other hand feel guitly about it and wonder if I am just lazy.
I know if I just do it out of scrupulousness then it is not good. However, it IS a worthy case, so I am torn!
😉

But to start a petition would maybe involve also reading all the terms of service, and this just gets up the red flag anxiety for me. 😉 😉 😉

Argh. I tend to feel responsible for everything, which is sometimes good and more often not.
Sorry for getting too personal I am really struggling.

Also I won’t be online again until tonight, but I do also have an obligation to support myself and go earn money during the day (I play music).
But in the US it isn’t evening yet when I get home so probably from most places like care2 I wouldn’t get a reply until tonight either.

I will send a quick e-mail to the embassy in Vienna, I think that is a good idea.

I sent this ;))
Dear embassy of Paraguay

I came across a petition asking Paraguay to change the law to permit abortion for a 10 year old girl.
I hope Paraguay will not yield to international pressure in the issue.

I am sending this to show you that there are people out there who also believe in life. Who are Pro Life. I am Catholic and this is also what my Faith tells me.
As far as I understand it, and I hope I got that right, direct abortion is not allowed in any case by our Faith.

Somebody on a forum pointed out that in the case of the girl, both the girl and the baby are victims, not just the girl. Both worthy of protection.

Abortion is murder and please do not allow murder.

(maybe you get a lof of mails. I hope you will choose the side of life always.)*

Grrr now I feel bad about writing “I hope I got that right”, because of course direct abortion is always wrong, well I really believe I understood that right and it also makes sense because murder cannot be justified right???.. see I have not dealt with these issues much, it has never really been a question for me… I just know I am against murder and against abortion and it makes me “angry” that people can justify it… :(.

I think I will share the e-mail address with a few church communities I am a member of on facebook maybe they will ask their other memebers to send mails too. And then I need to go work…

Im saying its extremely odd ANY 10 yo girl would be fertile…in what situation, would such a young girl getting pregnant, be a good thing, even going back to ancient times?

It does not matter do we consider it a good thing or not.
Anyway, how do we know what God’s pans are for the girl? 🙂 Maybe she will get many blessings out of this, even if she is not aware of it right now, not the family.

By the way prayer is strong so we can pray for God to lead the hearts of pople into the right way.

I think I will start a thread in the prayer intention thread now. 🙂 Join me there if you want . 🙂

It is not per se a good thing for a child so young to become pregnant, but there are tremendous human variations in all body functions, including that of fertility.

Remember, the rape itself was not God’s will at all.
