Parents file suit to stop sex-ed

I commend the CRC for filing suit. I just opted my 5th grader out of sex ed. However, her curriculum is extrememtly MILD compared to the one in the article. This is why parents NEED to review their school sex ed curriculum every year. Only 4 parents from our school showed up (out of 57 kids) for preview night. I think more would have opted their children out if they had taken the time to see the program.

I live in the area where all this is going on, and let me tell you, it’s a big deal right now. This area is very liberal.

Evertime I see stuff like this, I think “thank God I homeschool”. :gopray2:

Good for them. Children should be taught in the home. Sex-ed has not help decreased the prgnancy or abotion rates.,so what good has it done. :hmmm: Now for something totally stupid that wastes our tax dollars:whacky: >>read this>>I have an autistic son who just turned 17. He is mute and has the congitive level of a 2nd grader or less. Every year I have to opt him out of sex-ed (taught for his age level not congitive). All of his classmates are more or less like him. But it’s state law where I live and unless parents say no, they get it. I tell him myself what I feel he needs to know, he naturally has no interest in girls and the only “problem” I had was touching himself which was handled simply stating. “That is not apporiate” It stopped very soon after. If a handicap child should have a problem in this area and its hard for the parents to deal with a professional should be involved instead of a sex-ed class.

Amen!

It’s not that I oppose sex ed in the schools, but it’s gotta be done right. This ridiculous curriculum teaches “abstinence” with a wink and a nod as if to say ‘Here’s the bit on abstinance your parents want, but we know that ain’t gonna happen.’ They do this by talking about condoms and every thing else in great detail, abstinence is discussed as an afterthought that needs more study.

Where do they get their statistics from? In what dimension do condoms have 98% effectiveness? Even if they did, which they don’t, do you really want something 98% effective against the spread of AIDs? Abstinence is not just a possible solution to STD, it is the ONLY 100% effective prevention against a disease that is still 100% fatal.

I read somewhere recently, that condoms do not prevent the AIDS virus. The virus can get through most condoms as there are small microscopic holes in the condoms—sperm can’t make it through, but the AIDS virus can. I wish I could find the article. Has anyone else read this?

Sex education hasn’t helped here in Ireland with keeping down under-age pregnancies, if anything it’s got worse.

There are a lot of young single mums, so it seems the more they know about it, the sooner they want to try it out.

I think there is a time and place for everything, I actually talked to my sons and daughters about sex, I don’t need a school showing them the correct way to put a condom on.

It’s well known to health professionals that both latex gloves and condoms have a high failure rate. That’s why handwashing in hospitals is stressed so much.

more proof that liBRRRals are wanting to shove their religion (seKKKularism) down the throats of others.

At least in America you don’t HAVE to do sex education! (from what some have said…)
Code:
Here in the UK we are FORCED to do sex education, which in reality means I spend an hour watching a video which tells me I MUST always use a condom, or listening to a speaker coming in and telling me about contraception - there's nothing about abstinence, or being faithful, or relationship education. :(

In my last sex-education lesson, I was 'shown' how to place a condom on correctly. I was horrified to have a clay penis and a condom thrown at me, and told to practice putting the condom on. I was disgusted and promptly marched out of class, refused to go back in, and was given a letter the next day telling me I had an after schol detention lasting an hour for the next week because the speaker had requested it (these detentions are only given to the WORST behaved pupils).
I refused to go, got my priest in and we effectively kicked the school's butt! :D

It appears I did the right thing though, because there was a whole group (12 christians, 1 muslim, 1 sikh, all opposed to contraception) who agreed with me but didn't what to say anything.

It's terrible how noone cares about the state of society - the answer to everything is a pack of condoms...:crying:

Giannawannabe,

Why did you opt your child out? If you think this class violates your child’s religious liberties, I think you should consider filing a lawsuit. Separate is unequal.

Good for you, as my dear mother used to say, “more power to your left elbow”. 👍

Just got to your question JimmyV. In our state, parents can opt out their children from sex ed (or reproductive health as they title it), at any age for any reason----no questions asked. In 5th grade, they do not discuss birth control/abortion/oral sex things of that nature. However, the curriculum is devoid of the virtues and morals I would like to teach alongside the pure biology of the whole thing. So, I’m not sure that the curriculum would violate my child’s religious liberties at this point. I think the 7th grade curriculum might. I know that a new curriculum has been approved for next year that is supposed to be “abstinence-based”. So, I’d like to see that one. I never thought of filing a lawsuit regarding this.:hmmm:

I remember asking my mother to opt me out of it because I didn’t care. I already knew how things were done and an additional hour per week was the last thing I needed. I went to see what it looked like, for a good laugh more than anything, but the first class was my last one. For all I remember, the teacher didn’t have any overly bizarre ideas, although as I say, I only attended one class. Teenagers definitely need sex ed. They only need an orthodox Catholic one instead of the secularist babble.
