I read somewhere recently, that condoms do not prevent the AIDS virus. The virus can get through most condoms as there are small microscopic holes in the condoms—sperm can’t make it through, but the AIDS virus can. I wish I could find the article. Has anyone else read this?
It’s well known to health professionals that both latex gloves and condoms have a high failure rate. That’s why handwashing in hospitals is stressed so much.
Here in the UK we are FORCED to do sex education, which in reality means I spend an hour watching a video which tells me I MUST always use a condom, or listening to a speaker coming in and telling me about contraception - there's nothing about abstinence, or being faithful, or relationship education. :(
In my last sex-education lesson, I was 'shown' how to place a condom on correctly. I was horrified to have a clay penis and a condom thrown at me, and told to practice putting the condom on. I was disgusted and promptly marched out of class, refused to go back in, and was given a letter the next day telling me I had an after schol detention lasting an hour for the next week because the speaker had requested it (these detentions are only given to the WORST behaved pupils).
I refused to go, got my priest in and we effectively kicked the school's butt! :D
It appears I did the right thing though, because there was a whole group (12 christians, 1 muslim, 1 sikh, all opposed to contraception) who agreed with me but didn't what to say anything.
It's terrible how noone cares about the state of society - the answer to everything is a pack of condoms...:crying:
Giannawannabe,I commend the CRC for filing suit. I just opted my 5th grader out of sex ed. However, her curriculum is extrememtly MILD compared to the one in the article. This is why parents NEED to review their school sex ed curriculum every year. Only 4 parents from our school showed up (out of 57 kids) for preview night. I think more would have opted their children out if they had taken the time to see the program.
God Bless

Good for you, as my dear mother used to say, “more power to your left elbow”.I refused to go, got my priest in and we effectively kicked the school’s butt!

Just got to your question JimmyV. In our state, parents can opt out their children from sex ed (or reproductive health as they title it), at any age for any reason----no questions asked. In 5th grade, they do not discuss birth control/abortion/oral sex things of that nature. However, the curriculum is devoid of the virtues and morals I would like to teach alongside the pure biology of the whole thing. So, I’m not sure that the curriculum would violate my child’s religious liberties at this point. I think the 7th grade curriculum might. I know that a new curriculum has been approved for next year that is supposed to be “abstinence-based”. So, I’d like to see that one. I never thought of filing a lawsuit regarding this.Giannawannabe,
Why did you opt your child out? If you think this class violates your child’s religious liberties, I think you should consider filing a lawsuit. Separate is unequal.
