LONDON (AP) - The parents of a critically ill baby who cannot see or hear failed Thursday in their efforts to overturn a court order allowing doctors to let her die if she stops breathing.

Physicians say that is the only humane way to end the suffering of 22-month-old Charlotte Wyatt, who weighed about 1 pound (450 grams) when she was born prematurely, and whose brain and other organs are so seriously damaged that she has “no feeling other than continuing pain.”

Parents Darren and Debbie Wyatt have sought to overturn a court order given in October allowing doctors at St. Mary’s Hospital in Portsmouth, southwest England, to allow Charlotte to die if she stops breathing.

In April, a High Court judge backed the order, ruling that “futile aggressive treatment” was not in Charlotte’s interest.

On Thursday, three Court of Appeal judges rejected an appeal by the Wyatts. But they said that a review of the case, originally scheduled for October, should be held sooner

The slippery slope gets steeper… 😦
