Parish can't find RCIA sponsors

Hi,

I am getting a late start in RCIA, and I don’t have a sponsor. I was told there are still several people that don’t have sponsors, and to see if I could find one among the people I know. The only Catholics I know are not active in the faith, and none of them are returning my calls–not a good sign!

What happens if neither I or the parish is able to find a sponsor for me or the others?

I wouldn’t sweat it. It’s more their problem than yours. I suspect they think you’d be more comfortable with someone you know than someone they just pick.

I’ve been a sponsor on more than one occasion to someone I didn’t know. It worked out really well each time.

I doubt they wouldn’t find one for you. I had no less than 3 offers from our parish and I new nobody their. They will find someone for you.

I can’t believe they would put this kind of added pressure to the experience you are embarking on. The priest I seek discussions with about the catholic faith has brought up that one of his closest friends from seminary has offered to be a godparent to parents who had no one that met the qualifications on either side. I don’t know if priests can step in and be sponsors in this rite. After reading about your situation, I intend on asking that question when I see him next.
I’m sure someone will step up. Can a non believer with good intent do this? I know that can be done in emergency with baptism.
I’m grasping at straws here, I know.
