Parish Picnic - Nun Parody

Each year our Parish Picnic has a comedy skit / singing involving women and some men dressing up as nuns in the older traditional style habits , etc…

Astoundingly bad judgment.
And a mockery of the religious life.
Bad stuff.

Nothing wrong with parodies as such. And nun parodies do have something of a tradition. But it’s a tradition that’s getting a little old. It’s almost anachronistic. The fake nuns are dressed in a way that nuns haven’t dressed for decades, and often the parodies present teaching sisters when no child of the last three or four generations has ever encountered a teaching sister. It’s like parodying a nerdy student who uses a slide rule; everyone would just think, huh, I don’t get it.

Thank you for taking the time to state your thoughts on the matter. Overall many have same opinion as I do…It is in bad taste. I guess it can’t hurt to mention it to the parish priest. At least cut he should tell them to stop the beer garden visit while in the nun attire.

It is in bad taste. Where do you get the idea that nuns imbibe? Could have fooled me.

I have an aunt who is a nun. Many nuns do imbibe. I was more shocked when two nuns joined the women’s intramural basketball team I coached in college. They played in their habits. One of them had a very nice jump shot.
