Participation in Eucharistic Prayers

The priest in our parish often has the congregation say such things as “Jesus loves us, Jesus is with us, Jesus believes in us” (or words to that effect) after the consecration and throughout the Eucharistic prayer.

I read Eucharistic prayers one through four and found nothing about such type of participation by the faithful.

My questions is: are there Eucharistic prayers out there that permit this or similar verbal participation by the congregation? :confused:

Note that the Children’s Eucharistic Prayers should be used only when the congregation is primarily children. This restriction is often ignored, but hopefully the situation is improving.
 
The Priest is not permitted to ab lib during Mass. The rubrics and text of prayers is very specific and not open to “word smithing” or “editing”.

Now that being said, the Priest can include express special prayers during the prayers of intention or his homily or before and after Mass, but in the proper of the Mass, no. The priest is to conduct the Mass as prescribed.

If that were not the rule, then the Catholic Church would be another classification of protestant Christianity.

In my situation, the pastor uses the Children’s Eucharistic Prayer (which does calls for a response) at different times, such as after the consecration of the bread and then again after the wine, and then at other random times throughout the Eucharistic Prayer. I agree, I am also hopeful the situation is improving…I think it will.

Morning,

I looked through all the Children’s Masses. The responses that you orginally posted should not have been used by the Priest He is bound to follow what is listed in the rubrics and what is given for him to say and only what is written is he to say.

It is sad that some priests out there ad lib or redo the Mass texts. I hope that this ends one of these days.

I personally do not care for Children’s Masses and make it a point to never attend them becuase of the ease that some priests do not follow the Mass texts and rubrics.

Marshall McLuhan warned them not to put a mike on the altar. It moved the focus from the words to the speaker. Changing the priest’s stance to face his audience, rather than lead his congregation, aggravated that change.Too many priests believe that the written liturgy cannot carry itself and must have their personal touch to be a success.

[In the theater, prima donnas tend to pad their part. :D]

you are so right! the focus is too much on the celebrant. The sad thing? I really have a deep affection for our pastor, it is just that he calls too far much attention to himself during the Mass and ad-libs constantly (I am working on a letter to him, which is why I posted this thread so thank you very much for yours and others replies).
