Participation While Waiting On Full Communion

If a person was validly Baptized outside of the Catholic faith what can they participate in while waiting for RCIA and Full Communion? I believe that this will help myself as well as others Adults waiting. Below is a list that I have made. Please give feedback on anything wrong or missing information.

Can:
Attend Mass
Pray
Attempt to live a Catholic Christian lifestyle
Fast
Spiritual Communion
Study the faith
Read the Bible
Volunteer in the community
Give alms
Confession (Only if one believes in Catholicism and wanting to change their lifestyle)

Should Not:
Receive Communion
Continue to willingly live in sin

This list applies to anyone – baptized or not. Keep in mind that until you are in full communion you may not receive absolution during confession. I would also recommend a reading of the Catechism of the Catholic Church or if it’s more your style the Compendium of the CCC and also the praying of the Rosary and/or your favorite chaplet.

Why can one not receive absolution during confession until they are in full communion? I went to the sacrament of reconciliation. I followed the formula but first explained to the Priest that I have not yet gone through RCIA. The priest was willing to grant absolution but suggested that I still complete RCIA and also made it clear that I can’t yet receive communion.

You can receive absolution during your guided preparation for your first communion but a non-Catholic cannot walk off the street and receive absolution. The sacrament is simply not open to those not in full communion with the Church except under specific conditions as noted. That priest should not have offered to absolve you if you were not preparing for your pending First Communion.

At some point prior to full reception into the Church one will make a Confession …but ordinarily such would be I think closer towards the time of reception into the Church…
 
Can you carry a tune, if you find a really big bucket? As an non-baptized protestant, I was permitted to join (April) our parish adult choir, before I began (September) taking RCIA classes. I sang with our choir, for a year preceding being confirmed & baptized in the Church.

There are probably various other parish duties that you can volunteer for, while awaiting confirmation, as other folks in this forum can recommend.
 
I can carry a little bit of a tune :). This may be something that I can do in the parish. The other thing I could do check the weekly bulletin and see if any volunteering is needed. If I fit the criteria (Obviously at 22 years old I am too old to be an alter boy) for it then maybe I can volunteer.

Nonsense! 👍 Men serve into their 60’s, 70’s and 80’s+ Give it a shot if it interests you…
