The Passionist Fathers have been in NYC since the early 1900s. The Servant of God Fr. Thomas Foley, CP, lived in a cell on the third floor of this monastery.

The Passionists have a strong contemplative aspect to their life. The original convents were named “Retreat” and were in isolated places. St. Paul of the Cross found God in nature, hence the remote locations of their monasteries.

A few years ago, our priest introduced a co-celebrant for the evening as “A passionate father” , . . or so I thought . . .
